Ysc3 Twincharged March 27, 2011 Share March 27, 2011 yup, just updated my N8 with the new maps and voice navigation (with street names), work perfectly - you can even select (download) different languages and voice packs too !! and as the GPS is built-in, no data charges, unless you select AGPS ? ↡ Advertisement
Windwaver Turbocharged March 29, 2011 Author Share March 29, 2011 anyway gps is free... since when need to pay??? as long as your phone with GPS (not AGPS) then dont need any data plan to use it at all... is free! You'll be surprise that many still think GPS is chargeable
Elfenstar 3rd Gear May 2, 2011 Share May 2, 2011 Tried Papago before I switched to Navfone which I thot is great until I strted using tomtom. All on my iPhone 3gs. Papago - I feel is really difficult to use and I get lost in its interface Navfone - pretty decent with turn by turn advice but will mute my music when announcing instruction and I have to manually unmute to get my music back. Tomtom - no complains works very well and as well if not better than than navfone and fades and unfade my music automatically. Great interface too and it has day and nite modes. Pretty cool feature where u can select the language for the routing instruction. I played with Cantonese. Haha. How are the maps for tomtom? Have you driven in Malaysia with it? Dwoon 1st Gear May 3, 2011 Share May 3, 2011 Errrmmm.... let's put it this way..... Beggars cannot be choosy. . For idevices, TomTom errr-hmmm version seems to have the best availability worldwide. For Andriod, err-hmmm maps from whichever source also limited. How are the maps for tomtom? Have you driven in Malaysia with it?

For idevices, TomTom errr-hmmm version seems to have the best availability worldwide. For Andriod, err-hmmm maps from whichever source also limited. For SG and MY, Papago for iPhone or Android has good maps lah Anyway the reason I asked was that in the end, I bought the Incredible S. And it comes with trial navigation from Route 66. The UI for that is good, and it seems fast in pretty much everything. Only thing I'm wondering about is the accuracy of its maps (and it uses TomTom maps). Maybe I should just bite the bullet, get it, then give feedback Btw, did you download watchdog lite as your task manager??? And how's the 2X doing? Dwoon 1st Gear May 3, 2011 Share May 3, 2011 (edited) Nope... didn't use watchdog lite. Found a task manager that comes with the 2X , but not as informative as the Galaxy S & Tab version. (it just allows you to kill running apps, but does not show you what they are) So far, have not done anything to the 2X (actually wifey's phone & she seems contented with how it is, so leave it alone for now). A big gripe about it is the batt drain during usage. In standby, it si fine...... but streaming of TV movies for 20 mins and the batt drained about 40%. I've been busy restoring my apps & settings for my Galaxy S which died rather suddenly. Got it back from repair about a week ago and still monitoring the performance, to decide whether I should go for a custom kernel+ROM flash once more. As for your TomTom map...... just load it lah..... if you find it no good, then get rid of it. You know where to get right? Darryn Turbocharged May 3, 2011 Share May 3, 2011 Any bro can tell me how I can upgrade my Papago GPS? It was given to me as a prize in a lucky draw, so I don't where it was bought, and there is no "registration" of owner or anything. The damn thing takes forever to acquire satellite! Ya, am not surprised by the batt drain, although I think 40% for 20mins is a bit on the high side. What about normal usage though? For your SGS I agree. Give it a shot first and see how it goes. Dwoon 1st Gear May 3, 2011 Share May 3, 2011 Normal usage is also pretty bad..... for standby, it drops like 2-3% an hour.... then on light surfing (maybe 30 mins) and some phone calls & messages (maybe 20 mins) ... from 100% in the morning, it'll be like 30% left in the night. Hmm seems a little bit high. Maybe its syncing a lot of things too much. Or maybe wifi and bluetooth are not turned off??? My GF had this issue with her 3GS. Elfenstar 3rd Gear May 3, 2011 Share May 3, 2011 (edited) The map for HTC Location is not quite up to date in MY though the routing is ok. Thanks bro. Hmm... might just buy the lifetime version and see how it goes. I can always fall back on my dear Garmin XT when I go to MY I guess. I-LOVE-CARS 1st Gear May 3, 2011 Share May 3, 2011 HTC used pre downloaded apps, mean only if you have internet connection, they will have update but you can also use the map if there is no internet connection means no data chargers and no grey squares
Jchuacl Clutched May 3, 2011 Share May 3, 2011 Actually it's my standby gps device in case my garmin conks up. I didn't realise they have a perpetual license until you mentioned it. It looks worthwhile to buy as I'm most likely to stay on Android platform plus the Indonesian maps looks pretty accurate (I drive in Indo when I go there). Thanks bro. Glad to be of some help then To be honest the important bit is SG, and TomTom seems to be decent here. Whenever I've gone up to MY, I've been using my E71 with GMXT to navigate, as I have a malaysian line for my frequent trips up so I do have a backup. Anyway its decent lah, it supposedly covers most of KL (which is where i'm usually at) 99% of SG, and then some of thailand and indo in the same licence.
