Latka 1st Gear March 23, 2011 Share March 23, 2011 This fumbling minister not shy. Still dare to talk big. Singapore Home > Breaking News > Singapore > Story Mar 24, 2011 DPM Wong Kan Seng fires salvo at the opposition DEPUTY Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng fired a salvo at opposition parties on Wednesday. He argued that the opposition was wanting to capture a GRC for the wrong reasons. 'Some say they are doing it for party renewal, some want to be the first ones to do so, but what is the election about? Is it about the ambitions of a political party or individuals to make history?' said Mr Wong, who is also Coordinating Minister for National Security, and an MP in Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC. He was referring to comments made by opposition leaders Low Thia Khiang of the Workers' Party and Chiam See Tong of the Singapore People's Party in recent weeks on their plans to possibly contest in a GRC. He urged voters to back the stronger team that can serve them better, and not simply for the sake of having more opposition, especially at a time of global uncertainty when Singapore must keep pace or risk being left behind. He noted that Parliament will have at least nine opposition MPs after the next election under the Non-Constituency MP scheme even if they are not elected. Mr Wong was speaking at a media conference held on Wednesday to introduce three new candidates for the People's Action Party at the party's headquarters in Bedok. They are Ms Foo Mee Har, 45, Standard Chartered's global head of premium banking, Mr Steve Tan Peng Hoe, 38, executive secretary of Young NTUC, and Mr Desmond Lee Ti-Seng, 35, associate director in the legal and regulations department of Temasek Holdings, the government's investment arm. ↡ Advertisement

JE3722 1st Gear March 24, 2011 Share March 24, 2011 In any private company, if there are 2 serious breach of security within 6mths, i m sure the head of security or even the CEO will get hit hard by the share holders. Either the Head/CEO gets fired or at least lose performance bonus. Back to our topic. Terrorist escape from secured prison/detention Heightened security ... Common folks can still get out of the country/custom with wrong passport. Imagine what a DETERMINED terrorist with planning and training can do. But... "it is all a honest mistake that cannot be avoided" ... we were told... It is a mistake by the folks on the groung - the COMMON folks... The Boss is not liable... Didn't we say our leaders are top notch and need to have their pay pegged to the top guys in the private sector? Why aren't they accountable for major failures like the leaders in the private sector? In private sector, there is share holder meeting and there will be demand for answers for failures. We are the share holders in our country. In private sector, there is independent board of directors. In parliament.. we need opposition (but not those who oppose for the sake of opposing though....) Jeff49er Clutched March 24, 2011 Share March 24, 2011 Wong kan really sing. The Mas Selamat escape is the joke of the year. The aftermath of the escape and the reported news on how he escaped is something not 100% believable.
Ender Hypersonic March 24, 2011 Share March 24, 2011 Why this guy even standing for election. Given the magnitude of his embarrassing failure as home affair minister, he has to cheek to challenge the opposition. Among the ministers, he ranks the lowest and most thick skinned. SimonTan 2nd Gear March 24, 2011 Share March 24, 2011 They really running out of good topic and good argument to talk about. I think this erection will be the turning point for Singapore. I hear the new candidates talk....not much different from the way opposition talk. They can talk big because there is strong backing, can promise upgrades, can promote no one left out schemes, can promise lots of things because of the strong backings. Foxfire Neutral Newbie March 24, 2011 Share March 24, 2011 Why this guy even standing for election. Given the magnitude of his embarrassing failure as home affair minister, he has to cheek to challenge the opposition. Among the ministers, he ranks the lowest and most thick skinned. Rumored to be cousin-in-law. Among the ministers, he used to have the highest chance of taking over. Guess the in-breeding never worked out and is trying to grasp for air. Last election, also rumored to be the chief strategist for the incumbent, suggested to focus on the hand in form issues.

Foxfire Neutral Newbie March 24, 2011 Share March 24, 2011 no lah.. GST is to help the poor. Now there are more poor... see, it has helped! There a few school of thoughts on consumption tax like GST, it does have its benefits, if you believe it. But, consumption taxes more often then not encourages savings in lieu of consumption. Savings results in less taxes, so you have to increase the taxes to compensate. Thus, you see very few countries that have consumption tax is as low as Singapore's 7%. Expect the worse after the election. Be prepare to join the poor, if you are already not in it. ↡ Advertisement
