TS, my advise is to stick with your vios.

If really need to change than upgrade to a higher cc car. One suggestion come to mind. Cefiro V6 engine. The px is pretty cheap if u do a search on sgcarmart the reason being this car is a discontinue model. The pros is that you have a chance to experience something different. A smooth V6 reving. Also the luxury cabin that come with this car. The cons is that u got to fork out more for petrol, road tax, service and R&M etc. for the next few years.

let put it in this way, once a life time thingy to drive/own V6 ride so bear with it for the next following 4 to 5 years. At least in future u can say that u have driven a V6 b4.

erm i don think forte is faster than vios..no offence alright:)

yes the horses for forte may seem ard 20 plus more than a vios but i don think this 20 plus horses can cover

the weight different of 200+ near to 300 kg:)

i also never say forte is faster than vios.

but to be frank, both are meant to be purely on transportation and most importantly, both are not fast at all. [laugh][:p]

by the way, maybe you misinterpreted my words.

i said, i think Forte should be safer than Vios. [laugh]

Don't forget too, that the Toyota Vios is just an honest point A to point B transport. Stop having that infatuation that's it's some souped up GT car that goes like Stig and eats up the miles like an Aston.

And a loud engine makes you think it's going fast? What kind of logic is that? For sub 1.5L cars, a loud engine just under normal acceleration means it's underpowered. As for a Ferrari or Lamborghini, a loud engine/ exhaust rather, on the other hand, doesn't mean the car is going fast.

nobody said that the lancer ex is fast, who are you trying to reply to?

Well, lack of insulation is one thing. The constant need for the engine to rev just to match up with normal accelerating traffic just means it's underpowered.

The Lancer EX 1.5L still remains as one of the largest 1.5L sedan. Well, until the new VW Jetta 1.4TSI makes it here!!

it doesn't mean anything, it just means that the engine is small thus affecting the gear ratio

a 1.5L car will never have the same power as a 2L car thus the gear ratios have to be lower to compensate for the lack of power

thus it'll not be able to do 100km/h at the same gear ratio as a 2L car resulting in the need for a higher rpm

at the same time a car with an unnecessarily high gear ratio will also require more revving to reach the next gear

whether a car is under powered or not actually depends on the torque received from the engine

a powerful car will be able to gather torque faster than an underpowered one

thus if your car is underpowered if you floor the accelerator your car takes a longer time to reach higher rpm

you see the analogy?

the chevvy cruze is an under powered car yet it doesn't require heavy revving to reach normal speeds because of its 7 speed gear

Each person is different and requirements. Some of you may recommend TS other cars based on what you think is the right car to buy but that is for you but he is asking for advice for himself.

If he likes a Forte, then there is nothing wrong with that. No point talking about the financial aspect of it because he is prepared to pay for something he likes more than his Vios.

NO point arguing about whether it is a downgrade or upgrade, these are just words. I you want to change car, just change car lah, why car about whether it is an upgrade, downgrade or no grade?

Some feel change to a more ex car is an upgrade, some feel a change to a bigger car is an upgrade, some feel a change from MIK to MIJ to Conti is and upgrade, some feel a change to a faster car is an upgrade, some feel a change to higher ccis an upgrade. Well, its up to you to think, right?

Dear TS, just go for it, I know what your needs are and fully understand your intention cos I put myself in your shoes unlike some people who advice you based on their own needs.

In sgp road dun just talk abt hp, u need more torque than horse.

Talk abt Kia got 5 years unlimited mileage warranty, it's provided urs have to service by AD, if u service at outside WS, that the end for ur warranty.

I agree, "5yrs unlimited mileage warranty" another piece of crap on paper, servicing wif CnC knife sharp sharp [knife] talking about 5 yrs of service wif them actually you are paying for the extended warranty.

[:)] yes TS should just go for what he prefers or likes. Ultimately, you are the person behind the wheels enjoying the new experience

to some people peace of mind is more important

at least kah motors won't anyhow tell you to change parts, their primary source of income is from selling cars and not doing car repairs

unfortunately we don't drive cars that are kah motors supported else we will surely go back to them

What utter load of crap you're talking. If the gear ratios are close, it means the gearbox doesnt need high revs to change gear. It may or may not be underpowered to the car. If the gearbox upshifts fast, chances are it's tuned for economy rather than performance and obviously you'd have to give on the performance.

However, if the gear ratios are high, it may evoke a sense of sportiness. Gears are draggy and needs high revs before it upshifts. Again, this isn't a sign if the car is underpowered or not.

And you really don't know what you're talking when you say the Cruze has 7 speed gears. It only has 6. And its still underpowered, since it needs constant revs and downshifts just to keep up with traffic. And worse is that it doesnt have good fuel economy.

Wake up!!

Why lau ah beng KM comes into the pic? most of Japs car comes wif 60k or 3yrs warranty if you knows you service schedule well you dont even have to go back at all wif a wkshop who knows you engine well. You will be bleeding all over during your 30-40k service with any AD. Most of the parts for japs car will not cease production at least for 10-15yrs for that particular model. Of course you have the means, peace of mind if service by AD.

The overpriced civic we had was 7yrs old, so far only change a steering pump, a couple of batteries and some lights. Only went back to KM for the first 10K free labour service (gotta pay for the lub and filter) which will only cost you 10 bucks labour outside workshop. Not only Honda, as far as I know of frens owning japs car be it Nissan, toyota, mazda or Mit have no major warranty claims and most of the cars last well over 5yrs, has the forte proven yet?

Of course the forte cost the lowest and claims to be value for money but I believe any car makers have their own ways of costing their production of cars for the marketing are all the same. Does alot of them knows the manu cost diff between torsion beams, macpherson struts and double wishbones.

A note to TS: if you are a young driver going for the forte looks, go get some wide bodykits, lips, eagle eyes and a set of fierce rims and your vios is as chio as ever, your 1.5 is no inferior to a award winning 1.6 forte knowing your vios was in the market much much more longer den the forte. By the way I have not own a toyota before, my respect, Im only driving a ah pek forester.

not sure why kah motors came into the topic, both our cars are 2nd hand and serviced outside before already so no more point going back to kah motors for servicing

my brother's civic went back to kah motors for servicing a few months back, they told him that his headlight assembly needs to be changed because some part melted, common problem for civic, was changed foc, the guy told my brother that the cost to change is around $500. his car is 2 yrs old

we didn't notice any problems with his headlights, but since the change is free might as well just change; i'd believe that if he had serviced outside, the other technicians wouldn't have known or noticed this problem

the picanto was voted as the most reliable car over 5 years in a recent uk survey, i've never sat in a picanto before but i've sat in its competitor the hyundai getz and i found the car to terribly low end with horrible plastics all over very similar to the vios

but if such a car can be proven to be reliable, i see no reason to doubt the reliability of the forte

so now you are agreeing with me that constant revs has more to do with the gear ratios than the car's power right?

then...

KVLP. If a car has loads of torque, chances are, the gearbox would upshift very fast in normal traffic speeds. There's no need for the engine to rev at a higher power band just to keep up with traffic.

Hence, for cars that needs constant revving just to keep up with normal traffic, then it is considered to be underpowered. Get it?
