I don’t think agent will do repairs on electronic parts, especially MU. They will usually replace a new MU and provide full warranty for it.

if yr car isn't under warranty, then it's going to be ex. there are parts of the mu tat can be replaced, like solenoids. im not aware of workshops in sg tat do it though.

do note the agent doesn't do, doesn't mean it can't be done.

1yr+ passed over my last post on the VW replaced my Polo 1.2 tsi MU out of good will :)

Followed by replacing gearbox also FOC but paid for labour (reasonable few hundreds cannot recalled the figure) and they give 2 yrs warranty on that replacement. Now changed to Golf mk7 and still loving how much fun VW ride gives.

If really want to try out or enjoy a conti car, then try not to worry too much over the maintenance as long as you upkeep with the recommended servicing and best is back to Volkswagen so they can clock your service record and they will try to appeal FOC replacement for major parts when out of warranty.

Cheers!

Hi All,

I'm intending to get a resale 2010 Jetta sport.

Anyone have an idea what the average consumption like? Say, normal sg traffic and driving?

What do I have to look for during purchase since it's famous for it's MU and gearbox. :)

I guess if the owner has replaced them, it should be fine?

Than again it's a 8yo car.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Besides the MU, there’s also the clutch. Usually around 2k. N the pump around 1k. U can search ebay for these parts to get an idea of the pricing. Of cos need to add 50% more if u buy locally. Other parts r engine related like ignition coils, injectors, turbo unit, fuel pump etc. Set aside at least 10k n make friends with a workshop, quite a few in sg so no worries

If 8 year old resale to tide over a few years, why take the risk with this type of known "timebomb", just get an Altis or Sylphy.

If you wanna prestige and conti branding, seriously ppl who dun know cars will not realize how prestige VW is, ppl who know cars will snigger when they realize you have bought the biggest potential mexican lemon in SG.

If your heart really captured by this car, then factor extra 10k cash for repairs.

Request ur dealer send e car to VW for a full diagnostic report ($130 or 170+). Then see what parts need replacement and ask if your dealer will foc take care of it before you commmit.

Check the condition of brake pad and rotors too. Wear and tear items.

Watch out for terms such as "buy As-is condition" from your dealer.. once you sign.. hard to argue.

VW are very nice to drive when nothing happens, just set aside 5k to 10k if you dare to try it out :)

Go do your own research before you post , the 2010 Jetta he is asking is the mark 5 version made in Germany, the post 2011 version is the mark 6 made in Mexico.

I cannot think of any dealers will foc parts replacement based on whatever report. They are there to make money, not there to sell you a good car

Maybe thats your experience with 2nd hand dealers.. simple parts that does not cost too much can be nego.. after all they are here to make business not turn away prospective customer.

And no harm in asking..

Some how I feel the golf mark5 is somewhat has a good feel factor over the 6.

Hi all,

If my car doesn’t reverse after I engage reverse gear, what is most likely to be the problem? Mechatronic or electrics issue?
