Headshok 1st Gear March 12, 2011 Share March 12, 2011 Hi all, i just kenna letter from NEA regarding black smoke from my truck. I know the source of the problem and will be getting the work shop to check it out. they ask me go down to vicom for inspection. Just curious, for this inspection, the rims on my truck are after market ( ie, Goods vehicle cannot change rims). will they also check that? or is the emission test seperate from the LTA inspection? any info will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Cheers! ↡ Advertisement
Zuoom 1st Gear March 12, 2011 Share March 12, 2011 by right cannot. but no harm trying. at most re-inspection, a small fine and then change back to regular steel rims. depending on van models, they do have alloy version from factory. those can definitely be used with no issue. TandemAssassin 1st Gear March 12, 2011 Share March 12, 2011 Emissions test is at a separate place. Anyway, rims for goods vehicle is depends on the inspectors' mood one. Some more yours is the emissions test. If it were me, I will hiong.

Watwheels Supersonic March 12, 2011 Share March 12, 2011 (edited) It's like doing a dyno. Driven wheels on a roller and smoke sensor on the exhaust. Dan run the truck at low & high rpm to see how much black smoke it emits. What's the source of yr truck's problem? Lucaswh 1st Gear March 12, 2011 Share March 12, 2011 Please get it rectified bro. I really dont' like travelling behind any vehicle that blows black smoke out like no body's business. Plus pollute the environment too.
Watwheels Supersonic March 12, 2011 Share March 12, 2011 (edited) It's quite common for diesel engine to puff out a cloud of black smoke once a while cos the black particles accumulate along yr exhaust pipe. Once you accelerate hard it's very obvious, even for your less dan one year old truck. Should be less dan a year since you have not go for the annual inspection and dunno what's a smoke test. Once in a while find a ulu place rev hard to clear out the black particles. What wkshops can do is stick a water hose into the exhaust pipe as far in as they could and blast with water(revving the engine at the same time) and clean out the black particles. As for rims, I dun know. Since it's NEA and not LTA who sent the letter, it should be alright. Edited March 12, 2011 by Watwheels
Zuoom 1st Gear March 12, 2011 Share March 12, 2011 probably this. http://www.vicom.com.sg/cdst.htm Chassis Dynamometer Smoke Test (CDST) Black smoke emission from diesel-driven vehicles causes serious air pollution. It can also cause health problems such as lung disease and respiratory disorders. The National Environment Agency (NEA) has introduced emission standards for diesel-driven vehicles and ultra low sulphur diesel to reduce emissions from new diesel vehicles to improve air quality and protect public health. As of 1 January 2007, it has become mandatory that all diesel-driven vehicles undergo the CDST as part of their periodic inspection process NEA ENFORCEMENT Vehicles designed to meet NEA's emission standards are better designed and generate less pollutants. Notwithstanding this, diesel vehicles can still emit black smoke if they are not properly maintained. In order to keep emission from in-use diesel vehicles in check and to ensure that vehicle owners reduce smoke emission through proper servicing and maintenance, NEA requires vehicles that are caught with excessive black smoke emission to undergo the Chassis Dynamometer Smoke Test (CDST) at all of VICOM's inspection centres (except JIC (Jurong)). Please note that this enforcement inspection only pertains to vehicles in violation of emission standards set by NEA. All of VICOM's inspection centres are capable of conducting CDST as part of the periodic inspection for diesel vehicles. dun think it's a stupid test. it loads the engine n gives a better (more true) reading on the condition of the engine n fuel system of the tested vehicle. What's the source of yr truck's problem? thanks man :) think the problem lies in the boost and the air filter. went to experiment with some stuff. will get it sorted out on monday. just that the rims is the troublesome one. dont want to go for emission test, then later kenna wack on the rims, sians. Headshok 1st Gear March 18, 2011 Author Share March 18, 2011 hi guys, I just went for inspection. I didnt swap out my tires and my rims ( that was my big worry), but i went to wash my pipe and everything. prior to that, i called up Vicom and asked them about the inspection. they said they will only check what was 'reported' needed to be checked. so just crossed my fingers and went down. but one thing the inspector told me was that, they couldnt really believe the black smoke came from my truck as they were like reving hard and looking hard at the computer in disbelieve. they said that i probably kenna " setup", ie i was driving behind/near a lorry that was blowing black smoke and that a sensor ( this i didnt know) picked it up and snapped a pic of me instead. Anyway, just some info for you guys. Cheers!
