Kar_lover Supercharged March 7, 2011 Share March 7, 2011 Hi All I recently changed from Bridgestone RE001 to Dunlop Sport Maxx (not TT). This morning, roads all wet as was raining. I noticed dat with the dunlop, when i jam brake just a bit, the ABD kicks in quite easily. With my RE001, only once did my ABS kick in and that was in a really hard braking situation (in fron of with the 5 cars not so lucky and got into a chain collision, i escaped). Does this mean the dunlops not so good cos lose grip more easily triggering the ABS. Quite scary. All constructive info/opinions welcome. Thanks. ↡ Advertisement

Help1 1st Gear March 8, 2011 Share March 8, 2011 does ABS really "learn" and "adapt" to the new tyre?
Robo 2nd Gear March 8, 2011 Share March 8, 2011 i dunno much abt dunlop. but am on re001 and so far it kicked in only one. the road was wet and i was entering a slip road, i wasnt paying much attention, realised that i needed to stop if not siao liao. jam the brakes abs kicked in and managed to stop just behind the waitint line. Hamburger Hypersonic March 8, 2011 Share March 8, 2011 its the tyre compound or on that particular road, oil stains are on the surface of the wet road which made your abs kicked in earlier than before. the latter seems to be the higher possibility.... Kar_lover Supercharged March 8, 2011 Author Share March 8, 2011 does ABS really "learn" and "adapt" to the new tyre? Wat i believe is ABS is triggered when it senses skidding, i.e. when there is a difference between wheel rotation speed and car speed (wheel rotate slower than car speed though i am not sure how it senses car speed). If a tire has less grip, then under braking, it will be easier to skid hence ABS kick in more easily. If car skids when NOT braking then traction control will kick in instead. Kr_toy 1st Gear March 8, 2011 Share March 8, 2011 Thanks. Done more than 1,000km already. I think the tyre not finish run in yet, after 3k if the same problem happen, then it may be the tyre compound is not that good.
Wolfy3769 2nd Gear March 8, 2011 Share March 8, 2011 so far i olnly experience ABS kick-in when i do a E-brake on wet road...thus 3 times on 3 diff road is abit too much.. i wont suggest ur tire not grippy enough thus trigger the kick-in... another could be something wrong with ur ABS system.. Dunlop Sport MAXX , izzt the first time u trying it? maybe is one of the "characteristic" of the tire.. i would suggest u drive slower for the time being until u find out the cause of ur rapid ABS kick-in. Previously on my RE001, even wet also no problem.
