Israel also conscript army.. but they are damn well willing to die for their country.. look at what they did when Hizbollah kidnapped one of their soldiers a few years back.. They freaking start a war..

Yes they are also a conscript army but they went to war not once but a few times. their threat is very real and they conduct black ops into beiruit and probably other hostile countries. they were sent into west bank to fight, they know to survive is to fight...

our neighbours? we can walk into their backyard with a passport and can spend $ freely ... the threat of a war in this area is remote but still possible. hence i think the mentality of e conscripts here are very different from those in Israel... they belonged to a nation built from the blood of their forefathers

I remembered that NSF were activated as well. Pure Navy operation, Embassy evacuation in 72 hours. Human shield form, tear gas out.

Yup, we were fully loaded within 4hrs when someone up in mindef press button. The whole ship is so fully loaded that they had to store the excess ammo in the mess room. I was sleeping next to 76mm rounds.

We were expected to enter their waters "hot" as they also standby their navy to prevent any country trying to enter their waters.

Well said. [thumbsup] You from WO2 Lim's time?

I disagree... mid-twenties are probably hot blooded, gungho and want to have a piece of fighting. The real winner in a war or any fight is to win without a fight or to go in quietly and leave quietly without too much fanfare...

Special ops require a sound mind and definitely a fit body but i think its the sound mind that makes a difference. of course im not saying young hot blooded will not have sound mind. I just think special ops require not only muscles but also eq, iq, a positive attitude, maturity and patience. thats why SOF selection is not just about how many pull ups and how fast u run... those who went before will know...

NSF ... they only have a 2years cycle in SAF. SOF training is definitely requires long training and lots of practices, By the time the NSF is really to storm a plane to rescue passengers, think its time to ORD. Once he ORD, he probably forgets his CQB training... the time and money taken to train a NSF into SOF is not worth it...

just a thought.... and yes kudos to NDU... if you seen their hellweek, u will know those who made it are really good but this was last time, not sure how tough is their training now...

ah.. so you guys are saying real spec-ops are older and more mature than our NS boys... ok, I can buy that.

However, in Singapore, you gotta make do with what you've got. If there aren't enough regulars to make up a good spec ops team, then no choice gotta rope in the NS boys, even though it's only for about a year or two, before they cycle out to reservist.

you guys can still have da coffee, it would be good to meet up and swap stories anyway!

That will NEVER happen. Spec Ops will never MAKE DO. It will JUST DO. :D

Didn't know that. And glad to know that. Salute to the guys who do such work quietly and knowing they have to do such jobs quietly.

yes, the unsung heros. working behind the scene. getting the job done and then fade away.

they probably should get more recognition. dun know why the PR guys now working on that. or if they were... it's not effective.

it's a pity that many didn't know about what they did, or rather what Singapore has in her bag to help her own citizens when needed.

Actually those people are easy to spot , lol just look at their sexy shorts . LOL.

That said , respect is given to our special forces for their dedication. Just do and die don't ask why or at least this was what i was taught.

Reminds me of timor where some of my mates were sent there. NSF signing half a year. We do have people who are NSF sent to for jobs.

Fierce... i wonder if RSAF and our Guards/Commandos will do the same thing if Singaporeans happen to find themselves in such a mess..

better dun let them carry out serious ops. i think it will result in more deaths to the civilians
