Picanto 3rd Gear February 27, 2011 Share February 27, 2011 Very nice ride... But $79999 abit expensive considering the fact that I paid $75000 for my Honda Civic 1.8 2.5yrs back. Also, The Corolla Altis only cost $5000 more...OMV also higher than avante by at least $4000-$6000. For me, I would rather pay $5000 more for a Toyota. The current COE is really crazy driving car prices at ridiculous prices. Once again, the AD is testing how high people will pay for a korean make. ↡ Advertisement
Proton_neutron 1st Gear February 27, 2011 Share February 27, 2011 Once again, the AD is testing how high people will pay for a korean make. I would think instead of Korean Makes, should be the AD are testing to see if people are willing to pay for such authentic Korean looks. If the Kia K5 can be sold at $132,999 and still attracts people despite the high COE prices, I don't see why the same won't happen with the new Avante! Not every korean car can make it in terms of sales. look at the Kia Soul......poor thing;killed by unrealistic pricing from the AD. as for the k5, sure got buyers one...but the issue here is whether it can sell in volumes like the camry. I find the current altis exterior design still not bad, and the interior design also not so uncle liao. But too bad the car still using a 4 speed garbox which i really don't feel like buying! $80K for the new avante? Price also abt the same as the forte SX lo. But when i look at the white avante shown, the new avante doesn't really attract me as compared to the forte. Maybe it is the rims of the avante which make it looks ugly. I still perfer the forte design.

Problems here and there but not the engine cos at that time they were using Mitsubishi engine. Not sure of its reliability now... Heard it has improved but also heard bad stories. That's the reason why I dont want to step in too fast. I saw the new avante with a change of aftermarket rims on KBSworld... One word, beautiful. Karnaugh Neutral Newbie February 27, 2011 Share February 27, 2011 The pre-launch price is $79,999. Confirm features for the car is an updated 1.6L engine from the current Avante, which produces 130bhp (as claimed by the salesman), but isn't the 1.6GDI 140bhp engine. It'll come with 6 speed auto (as seen in the 2011 Forte), Chrome grilles and front fog lights, local fitted leather seats, Rear view Camera on the rear view mirror, Climatic Air-conditioning, Radio Control, 2 Airbags, iPod/USB Dock. Specs in question are Auto Headlights and Wipers (which the Forte has), paddle shifters (Forte has), Cruise Control, Electric Driver's seat, Keyless entry and Ignition (Forte Has), and Bluetooth Connectivity (Again, Forte has it). All in all, the specs seem pretty good, considering how barren speced the current Avante is. KMC has indeed woken up to the fact that the main competitor of the Avante is the Kia Forte, packaged by C&C. Is your source regarding the engine reliable? It is going to be a great disappointment if they use back the current engine.

Agreed, when buying car reliablity is very impt. Since you said your elantra had problems here & there, and yet you still can kept it for 8-9 yrs??? But maybe it is true that korean cars in that era, reliablity really cannot make it. I have one uncle also bought elantra before, and his car always got problems, and always admitted to "hospital"! From then, he has no more confident in korean car. But seems like the reliablity of Toyota cars nowadays also become not very realiable lo. So i also don't know which make/model to believe?! Buying car sometimes like buying 4D, depends on your own luck. Some pple have bad experience with certain make/model, whereas some pple might not have?! The Kia Forte would continue to appeal to those who don't want to drive around in a shouty car. Not the least when compared with the many curves the Avante has. But Avante would appeal to those looking for something new in the 1.6L class. As for those who want something big, get the Fluence 1.6L sedan. The interior space is almost as big as the Sonata taxis. But the drive is reportedly to be disappointing, with light steering and CVT transmission. And the price of $94,999 not cheap either. And it's assembled in Korea. The Koreans are getting better and better ......... nvr heard of Samsung or LG electronics products 10/15 years ago, but look at the market now ....... LG, Samsung have LED/LCD TV that are on par with the Jap brands like Panasonic, Sony etc. IMO, Samaung has even overtake NOKIA in mobile phone and they are getting very popular. The Koreans has come a long way and I would prefer a new MIK Avante against a MIT Toyota ALTIS. Especially the 4-Speed Gearbox used on the ALTIS. I cannot comment about the reliability as I have never owned a MIK car but I have never heard my friend driving the current Avante complaining about the car. I guess if u are talking abt the current korean car model avante, i wld think it shld be far better than the last time korean model. So the new avante shld be even better than the current model.
