Grinding noise in engine bay

Hi guys,

My 7 year old tarzanboy (Mazda 323) is finally giving me problems.

Whenever I start the engine, there's a loud 'grinding' noise from the engine area. I suspect it's either one of the bearings, but not sure if it's the AC compressor, power steering, or just the idling pulley.

Once the engine warms up, the noise lessens, but can still hear occasional grinding noise. Another symptom is my idling will be unstable; feel as if my engine would die when my car is stationary.

Anyone have any clues as to what's wrong, and maybe what's the estimate cost to repair?

Thanks in advance

Try to determine exactly where the noise is coming from. Then u can make a better diagnosis.

If u cannot, go to a good mech to diagnose or u might end up engine die on some isolated road n much inconvenience to u.

Goodness me I just realized there were replies to this old thread of mine..

It's already settled. My a/c compressor damaged inside, that was the cause of the grinding noise.

Thanks anyway guys! :)
