Conti car stronger?

can discuss about the tensile strength or brittleness of metal until cow comes home.. we know conti cars have the upper hand, or mostly. but the point is, besides the rigid chassis structure or crumple zones that conti, MIK MIJ cars have.. conti have one more advantage. their safety features.

air bags for side, knee, etc etc

sleep assistant

blind spot warning

automatic stop during city driving speed - volvo

etc.

the drawback is price :D

Most japanese B&B car still don't have this.

Is the Korea B&B car better equiped now, Eg. the KIA Forte.

I think those peform dent remover folk will know which car is tougher. Those car that need longer time/more strength to fix will be the tougher car. Ask them whether they prefer to fix the same condition of dent of a Honda Accord or Volvo S80.

Heard from somewhere in the forum that it took a mechanic half an hr to drill a hole for a Skoda car vs the so much shorter lead time for other car

yes, kudos to these korean car makers for including them, even their basic BB car also have, not only higher trim.

take a look at MIJ car makers.. like cannot be bothered. features so bare, design not improving, instead, taking a step backwards in terms of appearance for some. so boring.

Carmakers like Toyota probably think people will keep queuing up to buy their car with just minor improvements over the last variants, with minal safety features like ABS & a couple of airbags. But they are still selling like hot cakes, even here with the crazy coe, who can blame them.

Europeans are more concern about the safety aspect of a car, & these are critical citeria for their car selection. Have you seen those mountain passes in Central Europe, & the type of road condition they have in the winter. I also don't wanna play play.

Conti car is definitely stronger and the level of damage is also less (but not damage proof). So if Jap car dent 10cm, and conti car dent 2cm, both also got to repair and labour is also same.

Besides head-on collision, the main cause of injury (I think), is due to side impact. If I were to be hit by another vehicle from the side, I'd rather be in a Conti car because the doors and safety cell are much stronger in general. We all know how hollow Japanese car doors sound - even the higher end ones like Camry cannot match the solid thud and heaviness of a "chicken brand" Conti car doors.

Add the side and curtain airbags and it is as safe as one can hope to be.

I thought the thud was from the soundproofing? One of my friend's QQ he DIY soundproofing with very thick layer. Now his door close sound like conti car.

I have the same thought after watching a documentary where they disected conti, jap and korean cars. As expected the conti doors are heavily padded with sound proof material. Their weather require that especially during winter. However, what is most important is the inner bar. These are the bars that protect you from an impact but not the door's metal sheet itself.

When I got a chance to look at my first Conti car door 20+years ago, I could remember the side impact beam was like a 2 inch steel pipe.

During RTA responses, I could hear the hydraulic power pack of Jaws of Life screamed louder when they operated it on a Conti car, especially the Leopard brand.

these days... I buy car base on NCAP. No 5 star no buy...

[laugh]

Just saw a VIOS totalled and the freaking air bags never deploy... [shocked] The owners should sue Toyota... they are producing unsafe cars.

negative, u have to check if the car that the AD bring in actually meet the NCAP rating,

not use if the review got 5 stars while the AD is bring in the cheaper variant [laugh]
