SimonTan 2nd Gear February 24, 2011 Share February 24, 2011 Colleagues in office talks about election today. Many wishful of a holiday. Coffeeshop uncles also talk about election when I went to ta-pao my dinner just now. My mum also told me election coming while having dinner with the TV news on. Seems like Singapore is very much intune to this coming election! What is the real reason for the much enthusiasm? Does citizen very eager to make their voices known? But which direction? I mean normally people who wants to oppose or highlight something will look forward to EOGM and elections. I dont understand why the hugh enthusiasms as most people will still vote the incumbent into power(My opinion). Or will this time be a different outcome? ↡ Advertisement

To most ordinary Singaporean these are just paper asset. You sell high, you also buy high. CPF must wait don't know how old or die already then can use. Only 14% is financially ready for retirement. Many years back, Bishan block, one Executive/Masionette unit was almost a million liao and was bought by HongKi. If salary can't cope with property prices, how are poor couples going to buy flat to start a family? Regards,

Reality counts. Raising retirement age is only good for those high income earner up there and they are the minority. Regards,

Kelpie 2nd Gear February 24, 2011 Share February 24, 2011 With mortgages stretching 30 years, higher healthcare cost, raising retirement age is a practical solution. Very contradicting. On one hand, asking people not to spend too much on housing loan too. Should focus on reducing housing costs and healthcare cost instead. Why get people to spend so much on shelter and worry about where to put up at old age? It is already a vicious cycle, just using a handy plaste to paste on the wound. More Good Years. That one is true. But no one said we must follow Hong Kong footsteps right? and those high income earners are suppose to do something better than HK. If not, why get paid so much in the 1st place? So sad hor. Singaporean so poor thing and have to seek medical attention outside of their home country to "save cost". Kelpie 2nd Gear February 24, 2011 Share February 24, 2011 Limited land in Singapore. More good years. HK is the same, limited land. My old uncle living in HK and told me the medical benefit is very good. He did a bypass and spend very little. Their HK govt really take care of old folks. And some restaurants, offers free drinks to old folks during off-peak hours. In Sg, everything is money here and money there. HK supposedly have more land and space than Singapore but due to its hilly terrain, they actually have less available space for public housing.
