Do you skip gears while driving? (for manual transmission)

It depends on the gear ratio and the engine power.

On expressway, when i'm accelerating hard to 8k+ rpm, normally, it'll be 1236 or 125 or 1256, depending on traffic.

Can share with us what car needs 8k+ rpm in Singapore? I have not yet exceeded 4k rpm along NSH to be 130km/H?

I believe modern cars comes with synchronized gears. Just release the clutch pedal gradually will do. Accelerate thereafter if needed to. Perhaps the car needs workshop attention

the synchro only matches the gears speed so you can slot it into gear without crashing and eventually breaking the gears

rev matching is to match the engine revs to the speed of the gear box / car so that there is minimal shock to the engine. also reduces wear and tear to clutch

try driving an older car with worn out synchro ... you will have to do double clutching + rev matching to drive smooth.

I also do rev matching so that I can just release the clutch immediately rather than slowly.

Normally only 2nd gear rev to 8k+ to get myself up to highway speed.

Most of the time, 2nd gear, 1st gear only once in a while. 3rd gear is a no no as I'll be asking for trouble.

Even if you rev match, u don't drop ur clutch unless u are doing drag racing.

I do drop the clutch cuz I cant feel whether its smoother or not even if I release slowly. So long as i get to the right engine speed I drop the clutch its also smooth already. I do this cuz I like to use engine brake and downshift from 5-4-3-2 when approaching red light.

I also drop clutch but at higher gears, say from 2nd to 3rd and onwards, cos mine not sports car. Not as frequent using engine brake, got chance will coast slowly to the line, slight on the brakes. Mine is old car, better waste the brakes than uplorry the engine.

You driving vintage car? I only double de-clutch on some bigger trucks years back.

Don't mind me.. You started so many thread on how to drive a manual.. Why not go trash your car in PG? Best way to learn. The key to manual is to heel-toe. Once you master that, you can drive a manual like an auto. Everytime you brake, blip your accelerator..

I thought attending refresher driving lessons would be cheaper?

huh? redlining at 1st 2 gears? first 2 gears can hit 8k?

honda b and k series can already redline beyond 8K...even the little known ek3 redline at 7200.

but not sure if kachua is driving a honda.
