Wife keep telling me to get new car but i refuse. Hopefully this Sunny can last another 10 years. I use better grade EO on her, go for servicing every 6 months and drive her slow and steady. Simply said I LOVE MY SUNNY [:p]

Sunny is a good and durable car which can last very long de.

How much would a gear box repair cost? Has your mechanic quoted you the price?

He will check with OBD scanner first and said around a few thousand for 2nd hand gearbox from scrapyard or something. But he said no warranty. I will try to get someone with tow truck to come take a look first. If it is some other problem and can fix then tow car away. I will check the transmission fluid level tomolo.

About 6 years back, the old trusted mechanic of mine did changed the gear box of an sunny for SGD500 with an imported 2nd hand gear box from Japan, only condition was that the bad gear box need to be send back.

The 2nd hand gear box from Singapore scrape yard is at cut throat price.

Few thousand is ridiculous. Sunny gearbox should be quite easily available in scrapyards for a few hundred. Here's one for example - was posted quite a long time ago but there should be more.

Google for Kheng Keng, Seng Hup and Sin Seng Hup, and give them a call. The last I checked for a friend all of these scrapyards had Sunny gearboxes in stock for $500 - $600.

Am wondering would the gearbox for Teana 2.0 be expensive?

Thinking of getting a 9 year old Teana to renew COE.

If price of gearbox or engine repair is reasonable, Teana would be a good option for me.

One of the scrapyards I mentioned, Kheng Keng, also has the Teana gearbox in stock but seems more expensive than the Sunny one.

A lot really depends on how well the car was maintained by the previous owner(s). If you can find one in good condition and set aside some money to do up the car immediately after taking over, and maintain well thereafter, no reason why it won't last and serve you well.

Having said that, the Nissan CVT gearboxes are known to be rather touchy, and I remember reading somewhere that the transmission fluid change interval should be done at half the prescribed intervals for longevity. It's also very important that the correct transmission fluid be used (think it should be Nissan NS-2 for this model). My family's rental business has a Nissan Lafesta (same engine and gearbox if I'm not wrong), I change the transmission fluid every 10k km (one quarter of the prescribed interval) along with the engine oil (a bit kiasu since so many different people drive and abuse it) and the gearbox is still fine past 300,000 km.
