indeed USA is the place for shopping, road trips, extreme sports etc. the range of merchandise over there is just mind-boggling and common goods can be bought at cheaper prices. [bounce2] those who have been to the outlet stores will most likely not buy from shopping malls in Orchard Road anymore. [lipsrsealed]:D

Oh yes, definitely.

I think I will give Orchard Road a miss and buy what I need on my next US trip!

Regarding the plane route, are there many flights going via Europe? And will that be shorter?

which airline? it depends on whether you are going to the east coast or west coast of USA.

Well I meant if I'm going to Texas for instance, will it be any shorter if I take a specific airline?

On my previous trip, I took United Airlines and the route options are always via HK or JPN and transiting either via SF, IAD, or Houston.

So I am really trying to find if there's a shorter tip than the 26 hours ...

SG to Houston via SQ flight is about 25 hours. i reckon if you fly to LAX before taking a domestic flight to Houston, you could probably save about 3-4 hours. there are many airlines flying to LAX from SG.
