Pryson Neutral Newbie February 9, 2011 Author Share February 9, 2011 (edited) by my understanding. once you paid the excess, the rest not your problem already, no need to entertain any claims from lorry driver or rental company. but $8k excess for Honda Jazz... NTUC car club carsharing excess at most $2K if i remember correctly. Taxi driver excess also $1000 :P Take as expensive lesson learnt. That being said, better look at the rental agreement fine print to quantify your liability, dunno if the agreement got problem or not... your lawyer might be able to fight for you. Ask the lawyer to send letter to them, maybe they will kuai kuai return some of that money. but you need to pay the lawyer. yes thts why. i rented a slk 200 which excess only 4k. half of jazz. so beware guys. is there a way to find out the insurance fraud has anything to link with my case? cuz as mentioned on the article. it matched my case totally from what i was told. Lovemyride 4th Gear February 9, 2011 Share February 9, 2011 Why the excess is so high? My car is a Swift insured under AXA. If is p-plate (or like what they call young and inexperienced - either P plate or below 26 yrs old), the excess is 2.5k. Even if rental car and I do not think the excess is 3 times that of a private car right? Somemore both also small hatchback. I didn't rent car before so maybe someone in the industry can give their opinions?
Kangadrool Supersonic February 9, 2011 Share February 9, 2011 The excess may be covered under rental agreement T&C. Although the car rental company may have an excess of say 2K with their insurer, they may have specified it to be a different amount under their rental T&C. But, you should be told upfront/stated in agreement. That's what car sharing company practices too.
Joeymaritess Neutral Newbie February 10, 2011 Share February 10, 2011 i was told of the 8k. first time renting car tht time. so lol. no receipt.. i issued a cheque to them. i wanted to get a lawyer but they told me if i were to choose to fight and if i lose.i'll bare all the expenses including tht lorry's driver medical bills. rental company > a_v_n_ce car rental. Oh.. I see.. But I can't believe that it's really 8K. I would have give it a miss, if it was me. After they said that, a bit worried to fight too. But at least if they show you proof (hospital bills or letter from insurance), would have been better. BTW, you get any demerit points or fine from TP? So now you own a car? Does it affect your insurance premium?
Naiduvicky Neutral Newbie March 12, 2013 Share March 12, 2013 Hi everyone, i would require an update on this issue with ppl whom might have experience on this. One of my friend driving a rental van was involved in an accident at a traffic light junction with a taxi. He was going straight with the green light in his favour on the left lane. The taxi turned from the right and my friend could not stop in time and hit him on the side. mY friend is trying to get the video image from lta as there is a camera over there but was pushed around by the lta ppl saying go here , look for this guy, that person but no reply yet. When reporting the issue to the van rental company , they wanted an excess of 4k to be paid upfront before they can proceed with the case , and they also claim if win by anything lower than 80%, the excess is forfeitied. Is this true ? So how does the excess here works ?

Naiduvicky Neutral Newbie March 12, 2013 Share March 12, 2013 i dunno how to attach the copy over here , anyway just wanted to find out if it is true that you can lose your excess unless you win by 80% and above ? i have personally have never heard of this, that is why i'm posting here to double confirm it. Excess will be gone..
PSP415 Supersonic March 13, 2013 Share March 13, 2013 It's not common BUT if it's stated in the terms and conditions of the rental agreement/contract and your friend signed with or without reading, then hard case to argue unless u want to engage legal counsel to fight the case. It will probably cost more in legal fees and u may not win still. Safe ride Cheers ↡ Advertisement
