Up to which age should baby be rear facing in a car seat? Not trusting the manual of the car seat. I read that some suggests up to 2+ years.

Bro it depends on the baby. If the neck muscle is strong enough liao..front fitted ok. for me I rather be safe..2 of my kids are rear fitted until they are abt 2.5yrs

If the crash is bad, won't the baby's legs be in danger if rear facing?

ignoring that legs are alot stronger than the neck. i guess u would prefer to save the neck instead of leg if u had to choose

The head of a baby is easily the largest unrestrained part of his/her anatomy, plus the fact that the neck muscles are hardly developed. Now you can imagine that in a crash, the head is thrown forward with such violence that it can snap the neck. In a rear-facing situation, all that happens is that the whole body and head are pushed further into the seat. No comparison as far as safety is concerned.

And please trust the manual, it is written for a very specific purpose. Take note also of the expiry (yes, car seats expire).

Baby Hypermart at Ubi have quite a good selection, and from what I remember, the staff is generally knowledgeable about their products. Ages, compatibility with seatbelts, that kind of thing.

I think I might have problem changing it as my wife may oppose the idea. I shall just change it tonight at my carpark basement ..

When it comes to car safety it is subjective. BF is recommended in an event of a frontal crash but as we know anything can happen(touch wood). There are still certain risks involved if you look at it at every point. It's a recommended suggestion but funny thing is ppl see it as a must.

Which is best spot to place baby seat? left right or mid?

to me..back seat and just behind the driver...also easier for people to alight on the left

My common sense logic tells me it should be right side since the greatest risk comes during right turning (crossing path). So, left side is high risk (exposing to oncoming traffic). Centre is high risk also as there is no front seatback to support.

If you are driving alone with your kid or you pick up your child first before your wife, if BF you can't peer into the rear view mirror to see how's he/she's doing if your child starts to cry. Maybe you will have to paste another mirror to reflect back & forth :D ?

To me it's most difficult to point out which is most suitable or most "safe" way to do it. Sometimes toddlers or babies want to be hand held instead of sitting in a car seat, worst thing to happen is crying and wailing non-stop which totally breaks your concentration on driving, just as dangerous imo.
