Another one bites the dust

Is the NSF from 3 Signal i wonder. I conclude that the accident could have arisen out of two possible scenarios.

1.) The 3 tonner was supposed to be in a state of reverse

However we all know that all trucks when reversing in NS need a fella behind to serve as visual guide and provide verbal instruction to driver. Furthermore, driver would have honked to signal he is reversing. I think all of the above would have made it almost impossible for the victim to be caught unaware.

2.) The 3 tonner was supposed to be in a stationary state.

There are no such precautions except that common sense tell us that the 3 tonner should have been in Park mode and hand brakes engaged. I believe even without wheel chokes engaged, the truck also won't roll back if it is in P mode plus parking brake engaged.

According to the papers, it seems like it was scenario 2.

Since this is a car forum, let it be clear that day in day out we are at the wheel of "potential killing machines". A moment's lapse of attention can be fatal.

The whole situation smells of negligence, indiscipline or poor training. Even for a car, when parking on sloping ground - handbrake must be engaged. As a backup to the handbrake, also engage the gear in the reverse (uphill) direction of the slope, and if there's a curb, turn the steering in a direction so that if the vehicle rolls back will bump against the curb.

All logical steps to prevent uncontrolled free movement of the parked vehicle.
