A FULL-TIME National Serviceman (NSF) was hit and killed by a truck driven by another serviceman in Jurong camp 1 early on Friday morning.

Lance Corporal (LCP) Wee Yong Choon Eugin, a Signal Operator, was unloading stores from the back of the truck at 7am on Friday morning when it reversed into him.

A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) medic attended to LCP Wee immediately. At 7.05am, an ambulance was activated to evacuate LCP Wee to the National University Hospital (NUH).

LCP Wee was sent to the hospital at 7.15am and arrived at NUH at about 7.45am. However, he was pronounced dead at 7.59am.

In a statement, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) and the SAF extended their deepest condolences to the family of the late LCP Wee. Mindef added that they were assisting the family in their time of grief and were investigating the incident.

You know, the song was played over my battalion's PA system the morning (the techies were preparing for an event the next day, iirc) we were moving out for some live firing. Nice. [:p]

Probaly one Ah Beng playing with his I-phone and another one day dreaming about the coming week end.

A potent combination for disaster! :D

Nowadays, when you stop, on top of the obvious (maybe not so obvious) handbrake, you have to put on wheel chokes as well. Not sure how the accident occurs.

Last time my uni got a similiar incident. This driver parked his truck on a slope and never pull handbrake properly. The truck rolled backwards, hit a student and crushed her against a wall.

Looks bad on the lion & tiger organisation.

This incident came right after the case which a 2LT was killed when the driver of the landrover reversed & pinned him under.

They can come out with tonnes of TSRs & safety manuals but if the top never strictly ensure & the bottom never bother to follow, it is all empty talk.

Just feel sorry for the victim & his family, especially his parents who took pains to raise him only to see him get killed by a senseless act...

R.I.P., LCP Wee...

This NSF case raise so many questions.

Was vehicle engine running while unloading was being done? Why?

If engine was off, how come the tonner roll backwards? Never pull handbrake and put chocks?

How come no one was keeping an eye out?
