Not underpower lah, the IS250 is no easy cake too. 209bhp and 252Nm torque 2.5V6. I believe you played a short sprint kinda "race" which is why you lost. The SPB taxi torque at low rpm hit you by surprise I believe. It's 2.5 L V6 at 163 bhp is nothing to shout about but its maximum torque of 350 Nm@3000 rpm is a KILLER. Don't believe you try with them from 100-200km/h. You will blow them away cos the TDi is like sprinter, short burst low rpm but no stamina behind at high revs. [;)]

Yeah, diesels are useful in the city, since they require low rpms to move off, as their torque arrives at a low rpm band.

But as for top speed, a petrol will beat them anytime. Thanks to available power at higher band rpm.

Simple....its the BADGE....

Singaporeans (a large majority) are badge whores.....heck i'd admit I am probably one too....and most will find it difficult to fork out a large sum of money for something which they cannot show off to others in [:p]

True. I bet a lot of non drivers think Skoda is from Malaysia :P

I once had a Skoda cab hogging the 1st lane. when I was behind him, I beamed him to give way. he accelerated instead and I tried to close the gap. cab was pulling away and I only manage to get by his side when he waited for me before he start to gun again.

ppl who thinks that Skoda cab is only a sprinter prob haven't met the hell cabbie yet. [laugh]

Sprinting is only good for diesels, but as for top speed and higher power band, a petrol powered car is better.

A 2.5Turbo petrol powered car will beat that diesel anytime. If you want to compare must compare same engine capacity and with turbo.

Neutral Newbie

I'm driving the Superb....and I don't quite agree with you on that point....

Do a readup on the vagsg forum....VW quality is not way in front of Skoda as you suggest....in fact....ask anybody who has driven a VW and a Skoda before....see if they will say that VW's quality is way ahead of Skoda....

But I'll concede that the point you were probably trying to make is that the VW interior looks nicer in terms of design as compared to Skoda....even so the interiors of cars like the Yeti and Superb are at least on par with cars like the Jetta, Golf and Tiguan.....I'll admit I like Passat's interior better though [laugh]

What about the features provided? A Superb is fully loaded with features like bluetooth, voice control, the same integrated GPS and DVD system as the RNS510 on the VWs (only the VWs bought in the later part of 2010 come with this by the way....for most VWs bought in 2009 or earlier, it is an additional $4.5k option), automated parallel parking system, twin boot system, adaptive headlight system.....etc etc

About the only thing that Skoda has got against it is the badge......and in some cases the current AD.....look past that and you'll be hard pressed to find anything bad about the car....

But I'll have to say the design of the new Fabia kinda sucks though [laugh]

Volkswagen is rate among the worst reliable car by JD power for 3 straight years.

well, im using a 2.5 turbocharged car at that time. so am i doin a fair comparison?

on the other hand, it seems like ur very sure a same capacity petrol engine can beat a diesel one. hv u tried it b4?

Are you driving a Subaru Legacy? Yeah, it will eventually beat it to 200kph.... Drag Race is what i'm referring to.

The power or torque for a diesel car comes in one big lump, and then it's gone as you go above the power band limit.

Legacy? nope. hv done a few drag wif various cabs before and none of them came close, esp the highly 'feared' Sonatas.

like u, I was skeptical abt diesel cabs keeping it's steam abv 160km/hr. well, the Skoda proved that all I had was ill informed infos I got fr my dumb frens.

You should use pedal shift or sport mode it is super fast car for is250.

IS250 is super fast? honestly, wat can the sport mode do? give the car some addition power?

Yes I think someone in the forum mentioned that before....and if I didn't rem wrongly, Skoda is rated higher then VW in that same survey [laugh]

Edit: Oops my mistake....Skoda wasnt even in the survey [:p]

Tried with a few before...Take quite long to chase up and tailgate then try again another 2-3 times. High end cmi lah. [:p]
