From Newsradio.....

Fewer Certificates of Entitlement (COE) will be made available in the six months from February.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said a total of 22,368 COEs will be made available between February and July.

This is 3 per cent or 695 certificates less than the previous six month period.

And this works out to a monthly quota of 3,728.

These numbers are based on a new method of calculation, which takes into account the actual number of cars taken off the road.

The COE quota includes a provision for 1.5 per cent vehicle growth based on the vehicle population at the end of 2010, which was almost 922,000.

It also takes into consideration replacement COEs for vehicles de-registered between July and December 2010.

And adjustment for over-estimations of vehicle de-registration in 2008 and 2009.

LTA had planned to make corrections to its previous over-projections in the number of vehicle deregistrations in the remaining one year.

But after consultation with relevant stakeholders, Transport Minister Raymond Lim told Parliament today that the remaining 9,577 COEs to be corrected will now be done over a period of three years.

Vice President of the Motor Traders' Association, Michael Wong, says this is a good outcome.

"At least the authorities have taken into consideration that too sharp a cut is no good for everybody. And at the time frame given is a reasonable time frame. There is enough time for us to adjust. And I think it will give time for the market to look at scrap or change more objectively."

The next quota announcement, for the COE bidding period from August to January 2012, will be made in July.

From ST

LTA will issue fewer COEs, 3% less for 6 months

TRANSPORT Minister Raymond Lim revealed in Parliament today that the Government will be issuing fewer Certificates of Entitlement (COEs).

For the next six months, between February and July, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will make 22,368 COEs available.

That's 3 per cent less than the previous six-month period or 3,728 COEs per month.

The new quota will also take into account LTA's over-projection of the number of vehicles to be de-registered, or taken off the road.

Mr Lim said the remaining 9,577 COEs to be corrected will now be done over a period of three years instead of one after consultation with relavant stakeholders.

The COE quota will cater for 1.5 per cent growth of the vehicle population at the end of 2010, which was 921,958.

It also takes into consideration replacement COEs for vehicles de-registered between July and December 2010 as well as adjustment for over-estimations of vehicle de-registrations in 2008 and 2009.

Haa Haa......

So next round will most likely drop!!

By the time the 9577COE are corrected over the next 3 years....it will be 2014...where a HUGE COE boom is expected as many cars will be reaching its 10years age!

LTA really not stupid....they deserved their highest pay for coming up with such peace loving cum votes neutral idea!

Those who signed up over the weekends will be freeking annoyed to see the COE quota did not reduce much. They might even get a lower value COE in the next successful bids.

best time to get COE is the bidding just after CNY. After all the show-offs get their car prior to to CNY, there is will be sudden dip in the market demand. Best time to whack if you really need a car lol

i googled n found the total coe for 2010 to be 43k+ and based on the figure above of 22,368 for 6 mths, means 2011 (even without factoring in dereg) alr has more COEs than last yr..sweeteners are indeed coming. :)

Big car COE will crash down to sane level.

Those speculators who are left holding expensive Cat.E $75k COE will be racking their brains tonight to see how best to cash out.

Maybe register a honda cub and deregister the next day to get back 99% of the COE value!!!

LTA really did well this time.

AD can sell 'more' cars.

But then hor....those SE who kena retrenched.....well really suay.

Those lucky to be retained and still work as SE will be farking happy....as more sales to each SE=more commissions!!!

just a slight drop in last round of COE and ppl flocking to showrooms.... *sigh* .....no wonder ADs/Used Car dealers make use of such mentality to drum up the fear of COE price will rise etc etc....

You may be right...LTA is playing with percentage and figures.....I am happy with what LTA has done....effectively saved AD's business and help to cut down the KPKB citizens and hopefully car buyers can vote wisely!

The 1.5% percent growth based on total population might be a bigger absolute number than the 3% percent reduction in COE due to deregistration.

"The COE quota includes a provision for 1.5 per cent vehicle growth based on the vehicle population at the end of 2010, which was almost 922,000"

That's 3 per cent less than the previous six-month period or 3,728 COEs per month.

Neutral Newbie

I had made some calculations and these will be the monthly figure from Feb 2011 to Jul 2011

Cat A 1030 (reduce 14%)

Cat B 870 (reduce 9%)

Cat C 560 (increase 37%)

Cat D 650 (reduce 2 %)

Cat E 680 (increase 10%)

So there's still a significant reduction of Cat A & B. Don't be mislead by the overall reduction of 3%. Let's wait for the announcement from LTA and see how acccurate is my estimation.

The best time to buy is AFTER the next bidding.

Wait for the COE to crash.....AD will reduce the car prices....then go and book.

Perhaps this weekends....more AD will start offering special $20,000 discount in anticipation of price drop.

Yes....after erection....traditionally prices will climb for the next 5 years.

Just a peace offering ploy to make us happy for the next six months.

No promise that no further cut is coming as this may be a knee jerk reaction to the upcoming elections.

After elections...hehehehe....
