Stanchiam 1st Gear December 31, 2010 Share December 31, 2010 I have just done aircon pipe insulation wrap using kaiflex insulation (Kaiflex ST) http://www.kaimann.de/en/products/product.html?id=381276.Its Max. Medium temperature: + 105°C, MIn. Medium temperature: -50°CAfter the DIY, feel my aircon become colder much faster and when I off it, the cold air last much longer.Previously, when I off my aircon, the cold air disappear after less then 30s, now after 3-5m, still feel it is a little cold.Cost only $2 for the tube and $2 for the cable tire and aluminum foilFeel very satisfied with the effect.BEFOREAfter ↡ Advertisement
Kurty Supercharged December 31, 2010 Share December 31, 2010 $2 for the tube? i spend $10 for only a meter!... where you buy such a gd deal? yeah, it's really useful. though i don't feel my air con any cooler or stuff, at least i know the vapour droplets don't go into my sensers. not to forget... the back breaking session... Kangadrool Supersonic December 31, 2010 Share December 31, 2010 There are 2 tubes, one larger diameter and another smaller diameter. Which one should we wrap?

The other one being hot air tube??? Anyway, I switched my aircon recently to the coldest and the car seems to be performing better - smoother and less lag. Byond 1st Gear December 31, 2010 Share December 31, 2010 (edited) turn on ur air con for 5 mins let it run then off the air con open ur bonnet the tubing that have water droplets on it wrap it such wrap will help (abit) to let ur air con cool the cabin faster as the wrap will help to insulate the cold piping against the engine heat. For a more effective cooling system rem to change ur air con filter too... this change will help to prolong the life of your air con compressor... Ender Hypersonic December 31, 2010 Share December 31, 2010 I think you wrapped the metal tube that is cold after you on the air-con for a few minutes... Anyway I got Armaflex for around $2 per tube too.. $10 per meter is chopped carrot..
Mkl22 Supersonic December 31, 2010 Share December 31, 2010 wrapping the tube does nothing for the coldness of the a/c. those who know the principles of how the a/c works would know this.

Yes it does nothing to coldness, as that is control by knobs or button setting for temperature or thermostat. What the insulating tube does is reduces heat loss during coolant transmission. Basically you want more of heat exchange to occur at the coil where the wind blows into the cabin, rather than loose some heat at the engine bay. This should translate to the lesser energy used to achieve the same cooling load. Edited December 31, 2010 by Ender

Haha they are wrong and they can still write other people dun know how A/C works!

How serious or true is that? I don't know.
