Parking etiquette for landed homes

I have a new neighbour. He refuses to park within his compound and parks his car just outside my place. Now i have no place to park my car cos my dad's car is parked within the compound and i have to park far away all the time(sometimes inadvertently parking in someone else's lot and i get notes on my car etc). So everytime i go to work and come back the car is parked there cos apparently that guy doesnt use his car for work.

He has 2 vehicles and refuses to park within his own compound. Sometimes even if his space is unused (in front of his gate) he still parks at my dustbin/letterbox area [mad] wtfish right? dun want park in compound, dun park in front of gate, park in front of my place..... buay tahan!

no etiquette at all..... How would you guys settle this "dispute"? any other landed owners here have experience dealing with such new neighbours who do not show any parking etiquette? I dun want this to end up like the saga everit road landed saga where the neighbours hamtum each other in newspaper. [:(]

Pls advise thank you.

Best is to ask in a courteous manner on getting him to use the space in front of his house as you have 2 cars as well and need your space in front of yours for your second car.

Take this festive season as an opportunity & send him a cake or some dish which the wife can whip up as a welcome item to your neighborhood as an ice-breaker for a conversation perhaps?

U tried talking to the fella yet?

not yet. waiting to see if he is doing this on purpose or just a bodo who doesnt care about neighbours feelings. Feel like parking both my bikes in front of his letterbox on his pavement [laugh]

Go and buy a Cheap motorcycle, maybe a Honda cub.

When your neighbor move his car, you quickly park your motorcycle at that area. Make it such that you can park your car in front of your house without moving your own motorcycle.

But if your neighbour were to do the same, he will be blocking your entrance.

No point to 'talk nicely', Rich people will feel offended if you even try to talk to him about your space his space and Social etiquate.

The bike might cost you $800, get a super old and cheap one. But it will make help you to avoid a nasty new neighbour.

standard operating procedure.

Ask your parents to park their rubbish bins at the space when you are not around.

Most people will get the idea and don't park there anymore.

ill try, maybe new year ill give him some champagne. bribe him to take the other neighbours lot instead? Think this cant be solved just btw the 2 of us becos basically this area lack of space to park all the time.

Just curious what is the expected behavior for this situation. Is the front of your house considered set aside for ur cars? I mean i know legally i do not own the road/pavement in front, but i mean, say ur house frontage covers a space of 3 lots. u take 1 and give the other 2 to other neighbours no problem, but u would expect those neighbours not to infringe on that 1 space that is "yours" right? now my other neighbours also trying to chope the lots... leave their car parked outside my place and in doing so pushes this new neighbour to also play the chope lot game by choping my lot. [:(] in the end i lose out. outside my house all is other pples car. my car park far away. gan dulan. do i have to give champagne to all the other neighbours too?

i wouldn't assume the neighbour is a wallflower before trying to chat him up nicely on the first attempt. He is a next door neighbour after all. Not all rich folk are snobbish.

You say he parked in front of your place.

Is that in front of your gate or merely where you usually park?

If you can park in front of your place, why not others?

Do you legally own that space?

First come first served right?

If he does not want to park inside his house, what legal power do you have to force him to park inside his house?

The real issue is that you have NO LEGAL CLAIM over the space you normally park. You are unhappy over the fact that you vacated that space and he occupies it now.

So what?

As soon as he vacates that space, you can occupy it again, can't you?

No time to monitor? Just too bad.

If you really feel that space is yours, get another car just to park there when you need to move your car away from that space. Then you can keep swapping this space and use it forever.
