Hi bros,

anyone got effective solution for this problem.

belt adjustment is fine. only problem it squeaks when first started when cold-idling.

sound disappears when engine is warmed up or while driving.

very certain its from the belt cos as i dripped some water on it the sound disappeared for a while.

is there any type of grease/fluid for belts?

and where can i get it?

Thks!

You can try out this little trick, take one candle and apply the wax on the inner surface of the belt(Hold the candle and grind the candle against the belt),but be careful of the turning belt.

if you are referring to timing belt, below are the possible solutions.

1) either too tight or too loose. check with your mechanic.

2) could be small sands stucked inbetween. take the belt out, use a pin and just go along the line to ensure no sand is stucked inside.

i was told by my previous mechanic that putting grease is not recommended.

dont think the belt is worn yet, less than 20k.....its more like a chirping sound.

funny thing is it only happens when cold, like parked overnight type of senario...

sound just disappears away when the engine is warmed-up & its fine thru out the day

till the next morning.

What happen is the pulley contact surfaces may have some glaze spots . The can spray is basically a silicon grease. Before spraying it is best to clean up the pulley surface with sandpaper.

Looks like e belt is just starting to wear out. U can spray belt dressing but e sound wil come back after awhile.

But as u mentioned, since e sound goes away after a short warm-up, just use it 1st till it gets very bad, then change it.

the sound is not from the belt if i am not wrong, its from one of the bearing that drive the alternator belt. if u want use a cheap method.. is to spray wd40 at the bearings... got a few of it. if i not wrong , the sound will be gone for a week or two. i wont know which bearing... but its there... i suppose. then if want to cure it... is to remove and lub it.

usually it is due to the timing belt being loose or somethings wrong with the timing belt.

multi-rib belt might be the problem too and usually its the culprit if yr timing belt is fine. just apply lubricant.

It could also be the transmission fluid if the car shifts oddly and if there is a leaking issue inside or outside of the vehicle. If this is the case, replace the fluid and filter.

Never use grease, lubes and belt dressing on your timing or fan belt as these are made from rubber which will shorten its life span if chemical or oil is introduced. Always re-tension or re-align.
