Kiadaw 6th Gear December 25, 2010 Share December 25, 2010 (edited) Not exactly a delicated photoshots. But here's some photos I took of my winter driving in England with a rented colt. Parking at my old workplace car park, which seems to get bigger by the day. I don't know about you guys, the first thing that comes to my mind when I saw a clear open carpark with snow. DRIFT. I must admit the limited sucess I had with the car. Saw this littlea classic at my old workplace car park. My friend's house at Kenilworth. Nice little house isn't it. It cost GDP 270k, & is regarded as expensive due to scenic location. Take my word for it, the neighborhood is stunning, with a nice park & castle. Untreated road at the neighborhood. By the way, the black surface you see in the pictures are not tarmac but black snow. Rule of thumb, drive slowly, engage 2nd gear, keep safety distance, brake early. If you try to push too much, the wheels will spin, personal experience. The rental company Hertz was kind enough to supply this little ice scrapper with the car. Works well. Some non car related photos to share as well, as you can see, I prefer quiet small town as oppose to big cities, although I have taken a lot of photos at Amsterdam, London, & Cambridge, I still love these shots better. River crossing. The lake near my friend's place have froze over & snowed, & kids just use it to cross to the slope on the other side. The slope, as mention above, Alots of fun for the whole families with their sledges. Windmills at none other than the Netherlands. There is a Dutch saying, " The god make the world, but the Dutch make the Netherlands " I will add one more thing, the Dutch make Chio bus Hope you guys enjoy it. Kiadaw 6th Gear December 26, 2010 Author Share December 26, 2010 (edited) Thanks bro. A few more photos to share. Hope you guys like it. My friend's super adorable little girl, seen here feeding the ducks at the lakeside. I am actually worry she will step into the lake, as clearly seen from the picture, there is no distinction from the lake & land. My worry was unfound though. Even fatty me manage to step on the lake without the ice breaking. Sunset at the canal, Amsterdam. Love the place. No I didn't go there for the Red Light District or coffeshops. An interesting statistic. 5% of people that went to the red light district are Dutch, 65% are from Britain. Limxiaoming 2nd Gear December 26, 2010 Share December 26, 2010 Haha thats not a suprise my friend. Anyway its really cool to be able to travel to places in other parts of the world. I really admire u. I for 1 cannot take such extreme cultural changes except for the western food haha. An example was when I went to Canada for a month to visit my relatives few years ago. 21 hours flight i was on the verge of vomiting, and the 30 day holiday ended up with me sick for almost 10 days. Not to mention the temperature, I cant even stand 13 degrees in Taiwan, not to mention 24hrs of snow. I really suffered. On top of everything, I have motion sickness. in Canada, from place to place is roughly 1-2 hours drive if its near

Extreme cultural change? maybe Amsterdam, especially with so many chio bu , you have to re adjust your perspective & tell yourself seeing knock out babes every few minutes is "normal". But England is very homely. As some may know, I used to work there for a while. Drink tea with English Breakfast, watch the news on TV, read the papers, drive to work, except I didn't drive to work....It just feel so normal. I did went back to my old workplace, & visit some familiar faces, & speak to the new manager. Hopefully, something is cooking right now, & I will return soon. *finger cross* In fact I went there to visit an old colleague. His wife was pregnant with first child then. I told him I will pay him a visit when his child (then, gender unknown) is born. Now he already have 2 lovely daughters. But its nice, I spend one day with his family, going in the park, & visit their house & playing with his super cute 2 kiddos. Make me wanna have kids too. I never been to Canada, but its been know to be very cold in the winter, so have to be well prepared. Its not called the Great White North for Nothing. Dh15 Clutched December 30, 2010 Share December 30, 2010 Very nice winter photos there. But the Colt spoils the picture. IMO, it looks fugly and ridiculously hideous!
Kiadaw 6th Gear December 30, 2010 Author Share December 30, 2010 Well, the colt actually have been available for a while. It has the new Lancer/evo face that Mitsubishi try to push, don't think the styling is so successful on the colt though. The ones sold in Singapore, especially the ralliart version, looks much better. But its the cheapest car they have, & it still cost a bomb. Just for info, It cost be about 430pounds for 4 days of rental. Thats about 900 Singapore dollars! But its a good experience though. I never driven in winter condition before, & its daunting at first, with so much snow & ice on the ground when I got the car. The car have been not driven & well frozen for a long time, as the wiper fluid was totally frozen (probably using cheapo fluid). No matter how hard you squeeze, nothing will came out of the nozzle. As you drive, you can see ice gathering on the windscreen obstructing your view, & the wipers doesn't help much. Quite scary actually. But after awhile, I gained my confidence back. Afterall, I have been living there before, & know the roads quite well (almost).
Silver_blade Turbocharged December 30, 2010 Share December 30, 2010 Nice pictures....I was going to ask you what's the value of an 09-reg plate colt? Anyway, did you eat fries with sambal when you were in Amsterdam? I think it will be nice to eat something hot during such cold winter.
XALmoN Neutral Newbie December 31, 2010 Share December 31, 2010 you didn't use snow chains?
Kiadaw 6th Gear January 12, 2011 Author Share January 12, 2011 you didn't use snow chains? Most of the roads are cleared pretty well, so no chain needed. The region I went wasn't that badly hitted. My cousin said the snow at her Birmingham University was knee deep.

Having said that, I have not seen anyone eating ice cream for the whole duration of my trip. ↡ Advertisement
