Iphone 4 (Roaming)

Hi to all.....

Firstly, let me apologize for asking this question as I can't seems to solve, even after calling the mobile service provider several times.

Its with regard to the selection of overseas network.

Why is it not possible to select the "Japan" network? Proposed solution by the service provider was :

1) Setting > carrier > " manual" or "automatic" to be selected, however, only can see automatic.

2) General > reset > reset network setting - to no avail, signal reflects as " No service"

3) Service provider reset the main system of my line (don't know what its called), switch off phone, do step 1) and 2) again, but still the same, "No service"

Was told that the sim card might have problem, or the phone? .....is that possible?

Any bros out there encounter this before? Kindly advise....thank you!!!

So means..........there is something wrong with the iphone? can I verify that, is there a "Manual" selection other that automatic?

It will be troublesome if were to sent the phone for repair (if there is some fault to the phone for this issue), looking into sending the phone over to apple, not sure the duration of the repair it will be taking etc......

what is the issue here? Wanted to roam wherever you are?

first thing to check, did your subscribe roaming service or pay-as you roam?

no - go and subscribe and try again.

yes - do your want auto roam or manual? it is recommend to be auto.

go setting then carrier. select the automatic. DONE.

please remember that sometime it might not work. you must see the tick at the corner then it consider auto.

I just got my IPhone 4 last month and I have no problem auto-roaming in Malaysia and Taiwan when I went there for my biz trips recently. But my colleague who is also using IPhone 4 has a problem which is quite similar to yours and her phone cannot detect and select network whenever she goes into a foreign country and back. She has found a "solution" to her problem, which is to remove and put back her SIM card and then the phone would be able to detect the network, and she is doing it every time she goes overseas and back (thank goodness she does not have to travel much).

Definitely not a norm but I believe a handful should have this issue because this method was told to her by the service provider's helpdesk (I'm not sure which one).

y fren also has this prob and what she told me was that perhaps it's due to the original sim card being used in the iphone 4, i.e., cutting original sim to micro sim and using it. If use micro sim in first place will not happen. I dun know how true or what's the reason but that's what I heard ^_^

Did you try switching the 3G to 2G? Not many service providers have 3G in foreign countries, if you set it to 2G I think your phone will be able to detect the local service providers. I dun think it's the phone's problem.
