Clearing carbon in engine by workshop?

Hi all my Mazda 2 is abt 4.5yrs, and the pick up is extremely sluggish. Recently I was advised by a taiwanese driver to send my car to clear the carbon so as to improve engine performance. Any recommendation regarding this service?

Does 'warming the engine' for a few mins before driving off cause the carbon to accumulate faster?

Modern cars no need to warm up,esp warm country like our....anyway if the carbon is in the piston area,i don't think you clear it so easily.

Your ride need a total check on all the systems. Start servicing or repair only when yr mech has managed to narrow down the source of the problem. For me I will start with the battery and ignition system then the engine compression and if necessary the fuel injection system.

Mostly clean the carbon around the valves openings.

Is clearing carbon a common thing car owners do for their engine?

I would just pour one bottle of injector cleaners intothe fuel tank, and then drive the car at max third gear from jurong to changi. That should clean up the engine alittle bit.

If u usually drive quite slow and/or short <20mins trips, u cud hv some carbon build-up. Easiest way is to drive till engine has fully warmed up n then in low gear[2 or 3], pull till redline fr abt 10 secs n see how.

Hv u serviced yr car recently n changed oil n filter, plugs, air filter? If service is overdue, it wil also cause yr car to feel sluggish.

If u need, i can clear yr carbon if u not confident to pull till redline. [:)]

BTW warming up wont realy cause carbon but u can just start n drive off slowly after abt 10 seconds as e car wil warm up as u drive.
