let say a 1.5 manual car with a stock air intake installed with a K&N panel filter vs a 1.5 manual car with a after market open pod K&N..

whats the difference? any experts wanna share?? example fuel consumption? sound of the engine? pick up? power? low end? mid end? or high end?

try CAI with K&N or any other good aftermarket drop in. best combi in my opinion

How about FC? does it make a difference between stock and aftermarket air intake?

F.C. sure goes up,hey if you want power, don't think of F.C.,wants economy don't modify.!

stock intake is the best, i have tried open pod...finally went back to totally stock, i feel that there is no power in the initial start and it just get worse over the months.

Performance filters are not recommended for normal cars unless its really modded for race. The pick up is only a small fraction better you can't feel it. Your engine gets dirtier and you have to frequent oil change. Drop in easier to install, but open pod you need more installation and engine bay must have space. I believe you may only get the "sound" of a race car but not the speed.

Personally i don believe in cool air or whatever air cos whats important is only clean air to the engine. Air is still air, if you put in more air than what its supposed to have of course FC goes up.

My suggestion is just change the stock filters frequently 4-6mths and use irridium plugs. Stock filters cost $12-16 i think and plugs less than $80/4 pcs. Plus do a good oil change like every 7-8k mileage, don wait till 10k.

I tried both and I'm satisfied with the result.

Open pod good for Manual transmission not auto

My stock filter use for 3 years. ^^

Now using K&N drop-in with CAI and Irridiums.

Find irridiums useless. Copper plugs still the best. Unless your plug sockets are very difficult to

access then use irridium to save costs. But power wise, cheap copper plugs + regular change better.

CAI with K&N slightly better for mid to high end power. But offside is engine oil gets

dirtier faster. Change around 7-8k lor. Remember to check your airbox once in awhile

to get rid of excess water/debris collected during rainy days.

Stock filter good for low end torque due to restrictive flow plus resonator bank.

Hence, air pressure not that even during higher speeds. Plus, if intake is located

in engine bay, you will have alot of hot air and lesser high end. maintenance free

except for filter. No worries during flooding.

i found previously that my FC improved slightly. but it may not be due entirely to CAI + aftermaket filter as i also done other soft mods

I'm driving a swift too. Previously on open-pod and after awhile changed back to panel filter (K*N drop in+b-screws intake). Personally i feel open pod sounds nicer but suffers at low end. Maybe that is why auto car suffers as the car will usually up shift before the open pod can do its job. Panel filter is still better from low to mid range.

As some bro said, go for open pod if you plan to do some tuning and mod (ECU, exos)to your car.
