Sky_vinz Clutched December 18, 2010 Share December 18, 2010 Any opinions on bonnet and headlight protectors while travelling on North South Highway? Are they useful? Read thru some online reviews. Some mentioned the bonnet protector is useful, but only to a certain extent as it can only protect that small front portion. Stones deflected may be directed towards the windscreen. And the clips may scratch/damage the bonnet's paint. As for the headlight, is it tough enough to withstand hits from flying stones? Or is a protector necessary? ↡ Advertisement

Wax the area where u want to protect, it will reduce the friction hits from flying stones eventually no damage and of course for bigger object nothing can help. Before I drove up NSHW I did the waxing first so far so good. Melvyn Neutral Newbie December 18, 2010 Share December 18, 2010 Bonnet protector didn't really work for me when I go up north to SIC. Did notice that bugs dun impact the bonnet but ended up being splattered on windscreen more than average. I guess it was cuz those that's supposed to die on the bonnet got picked up by the change in aerodynamics since now air flow is diverted higher over the front of the car and ended up on the glass. So I would venture a guess that MAYBE small pebbles would be the same. Which I feel would be worse since stone chips I can spray over entire bonnet and end of story whereas glass chips are that much more difficult to rectify. Pls note that the aerodynamics portion is my own guess. No science or fact or proof to back it As for the headlight protector it was useful to me. Protected my headlights from quite a bit of impact. Not those big stones but those small small stones which would have made little pockmarks on the lights by right. If big rocks kicked up by lorries pretty much nothing can stop it.. However, unless there's other methods of securely holding it in place there's not much stopping one to juz pull them out since they're secured by clips only. At least for my EGR ones. So now I only put them on when I go up north. Dunno for other cars but mine's for Honda so there's one clip that's supposed to be slotted between the fender and the bumper and this part have to be careful in slotting in/taking out else might scratch paint Noticed that this post is in the cosmetics folder so aesthetically the bonnet protector dun look nice to me anyway. Headlight protectors depending on ppl may look fugly may look pretty. For me it's for practical usage. My 2 cents worth.
Sky_vinz Clutched December 19, 2010 Author Share December 19, 2010 Actually my thinking is more for the headlamp unit, not so much for the paintwork. And yep, I do wax my car before trips as well. So that I can easily clean off the dead bugs when I get back. I guess, a headlamp protector will do sufficient. Not so for a bonnet protector. ↡ Advertisement
