So_nice 6th Gear December 15, 2010 Author Share December 15, 2010 looks good..how long haf u been using it? the navigation easy to use?
Itsec 2nd Gear December 15, 2010 Share December 15, 2010 looks good..how long haf u been using it? the navigation easy to use? 1 year plus ...quite extensively used... pros: garmin/papago/mapking/agis/ and many others... map updates can be done by the seller or u DIY from mfm site... no worries whatever POI cannot be found.... if papago cant route, i used garmin... if both cant.. i use mapking... switch between all the maps/ gps apps... cons: too many apps in the device... hence, i had those media players/pdf books/ bus guide/games and many others removed... save disk space and i dont use them... running all these apps on wince are suicide hahaha... it will hang... but the good thing is... just hit on the reset button and u are good to go... As for the firmware, if it is stable...dont update... i had these problems with the earlier batch of firmware 1 yr ago...i believe these shall be resolved... Redstorm 1st Gear January 9, 2011 Share January 9, 2011 finally decided to get a standalone gps as my nokia 6110 navigator is outdated liao. i'm looking for a good gps for usage in sg and my..any recommendations? i'm looking at garmin ones cuz i heard u can update the maps free. but too much models to choose from abit blur. any other brand tats equally as good and can update maps FOC? pls share! Get a Garmin! Garmin is the world leader in GPS technology not for nothing. It is the only brand that has maps of almost every country in the world - paid and free maps too. Other popular brands in US and Europe are Tom Tom and Magellan but their map support is nowhere near that of Garmin. Besides, Garmin is the only brand where you can find free third party maps created by map enthusiasts using reversed engineered Garmin compiler. For other brands, NO. There is no reversed engineered compiled where ppl can create maps for Tom Tom, Magellan, Papago, etc. Some of other popular brands in this region e.g. Papago, Marbella, Shinco, etc. do not have their own proprietary maps. They relied on collaboration with mapping sites like malfreemaps and malsingmaps to create maps for them. But, please note that theses two sites' primary aim is to create maps for Garmin devices and they do so for other brands when they fulfilled their primary first. If they cannot create maps for Garmin, then the other brands gotta take a backseat. Besides, Garmin is the only brand in the market where you can view your map on your PC using the Mapsource software. Viewing on a PC monitor is much better than your device especially when you plan your routes. No other brands provide such an alternative. My advise is to get a localised Nuvi 255W. Cheap and good!!! You can't go wrong with a Garmin.
