the new Toyota crowns are really nice. sat in one in tokyo, sounded like a V6 under the bonnet too. was really comfortable.

I think many models are ok, but they should keep the colors similar. too many colors very haphazard

Hong Kong only 2 colour right? But how many company there?

HK taxis come in 3 colours, depending on whether they can go to all areas in town (red), or only operate within the New Territories (green), or only within Lantau Island (blue).

As for companies there are very few big-scale companies unlike Singapore, most taxis are owned by individuals and either driven by these individuals, or rented out to other drivers, either by themselves or through an agent who manages a fleet of taxis and rents them out on behalf of the owners, keeping some commission. Some companies own a small fleet of taxis that they rent out.

I am guessing the real problem is not the varieties of taxis available. It's a problem with perception. It's unlikely to affect any owner in terms of resale price etc... except of course, the owner's image. In Chinese - face (面子).

I do know of owners who will never buy a Merc or Toyota just because they have been adapted for public transport use. A rather silly qualification for choosing cars, to me at least.

Saw a yellow top (black body) double cab truck-like taxi on the road and saw a "normal taxi fare" sign on it.

Was thinking of calling such a taxi to transport a mountain bike. Can a mountain bike fit into the MPV or truck-like taxi?

I have friends who can fit in two bicycles (with wheels detached) and two passengers (one front, one back) when they go for triathlons. Just make sure you request for MPV and part of the rear seats have to be lowered.

Talking about large items, I used to employ the service of a London Cab whose driver is also a dog lover. He used to help me transport my large dog which otherwise wouldn't be possible in a normal taxi. The cabin of London Cab is also very roomy for a dog to lay down too. No extra fees, compared to a pet transport company that charges $25/one-way-trip. My taxi fare is not even anywhere close to $20 back then.

No offence I hope. Just sharing a bit of my thoughts that's all.

Care to share what is so wrong or what you feel is wrong about different car makes being used for taxis? Like for example, taxis should only be allowed to use up to a maximum of 3 models? Or are there too many models that passengers cannot recognize which are taxis and which are pte cars? Or even worse, it impacts car owners?

Just curious what you meant by 'wrong'.
