It is simple to tell a base impreza from a rex, but really much harder to tell a STi from a rex. Even red speedo and blue buckets and 17" rims can be swapped. Just lup on a few badges and most will be none the wiser.

not to mention alot of these soup up base rex will give the sti a 'jolly' good time too..

it's consignment sale. I brought it to BMS Liao.

target bhp? stock la. I will think abt it again in future. I know I mentioned 450 bhp in some other thread but I better learn to manage 280 first. also budget would be an issue. I am not willing to dump too much money into the car yet. after the servicing and non negotiables like brakes n tires are settled that will be a small fortune Liao.

Keep close to stock best no problems man. Upgrade other stuff like radiator and ITC. I had mine till 160k km base not much prob. STI spoiler and normal spiler not much diff to me so swap to the base spoiler easier to see TP in the mirror lol. Took booth the spoiler up to 200 plus kmh the high mont sti spolier actually was suffering from the cross winds(PLS note mine was not original sti high mount)

actually i have a friend with a 2.5L STI complete block with full forged internals and sleeved running offset HKS 3037 and chromed jdm reverse manifold . he is looking to swop + top up his complete engine setup with fuel rail and rear surge tank setup. range is above mid 500bhp and run 2bar boost no issues.

i can intro you his contacts if you interested.

wah... i will take it slowly first, please... no tempting me!!!

anyway, roughly how much top up is he looking at? [sly]

seriously though, it will be at least a year before i go for something that crazy. and i don't think my brake set up (and damn sure abt my stock suspension) can handle that engine.

after reading kman's comments i am thinking how much i need the spoiler. maybe only way is to try with and without at high speed.. see how.

i wanna put boot rack (maybe Saris Bones) for bike so the spoiler might be slightly inconvenience.

edit: can the rear seats of the saloon STi be folded down? i rather transport (one) bike internally if possible. used to cart my mountain bike to penang when i was much fitter and had more time.

works with my 2 liter engine? then again realistically he shd have sold it by the time i am ready to get it..

just got back from my trip a few days ago. still on my first full tank of petrol.. heh.. and haven't taken it up north yet to try the performance. does feel good though. and surprisingly civilised ride (stock suspension and stock tire size).

That is a good price! Do check your stock radiator cos those fail very often! If you do replace, consider an aluminum radiator! Strong and light!

How much is it? Guess I should get it from BMS?

koyo rad.

should be around 900 including installation.

get the 2 rows type as it is thinner for a more proper fitment.

3 rows type it will start hitting other parts .

avoid brands like mishimoto or the budget series blitz radiator .

of course if you can afford , go for ARC.

Thanks. Will probably get it done during my next servicing. My timing belt also due liao

Just installed cusco oil catch tank and hella twin tone yesterday. Actually come to think of it the radiator more impt for track right? Will try out the stock (and dunno how old, maybe as old as the car) suspension on track first and see how it goes. Unless the bros here strongly advice against it

I don't think it's a problem to track with the stock radiator. But I suggest an oil cooler for your car before you go to the track... high temps can force you to interrupt your fun [cool]

I haven't really heard of stock radiators failing... have heard of thermostats failing though, so my mechanic suggested to remove it since Subarus get heated up very quick anyways...

oh... and I tried lifting both the stock and koyorad radiators... both seemed about the same weight to me... maybe my hands not "sensitive" enough... but maybe the koyorad is bigger...

anyway... it seems that the fans are heavier than the radiator itself...

well, i have oil cooler installed by one of the previous owners, and i wouldn't know even if the oil temp were high cos i have no gauges, unless the stock instrument cluster somehow has a warning for high oil temp [laugh]

damn this car is gonna suck up lots of my money. just got a 2nd hand open pod from one of the friendly bros from the sg3gwrx forum. next up koyok radiator and timing belt. yes, timing belt is due pretty soon
