Do you think there are unethical used car dealers who swap car parts out of trade-in cars that are very new?

then resell the cars which then will have problems and recommend their workshop for repair.

In the past it is common, now not sure if still got such practices but should'nt come to you as a surprise, thats why some of the older generation people they will avoid buying 2nd hand cars cos hear too much horror stories...

In the past I refer to 1992-1999... Cos that time I was still young (haha) then when my dad's business associates who come over for our home parties you will hear them talking cos some of them who bought 2nd hand merc, BMW, Honda Accord, Honda Civic and Toyota Corona/Camery back then always got strange problem... When test-drive okie, when bring mechanic down to check ok, pay deposit check again ok, then after loan approval collect car, within 2-3 days not okie le... Bring back to mechanic, mechanic says not ok... In the 90s COE were rocket high if I remember correctly.. So a good number number of people do buy 2nd hand cars, some are quite lucky buy good ones, some suay kenah those bad practices then really suay lor...

Yes, there will be and you will never know. Esp. for tyres!! Make sure you check they are ok before your drive. I ever kana before dealer swap tyres that look ok on the outside but inside threads are gone and even steel wires are exposed already. Only found out when the tyre's valve leak and went to replace. Then have to spend $300 to replace the tyres.......

the best way to make money is to unwind mileage by 30-40k ... lol

I know someone sold a 6yrs+ old wish recently with nearly 300k clocked... Unwind 30-40k doesn't help much hor... [laugh]

I sold my car to a dealer and saw it on sgcarmart recently. I recognised my car right away because it has a very unique external modification. However it seems like it has changed hand between dearlers and iw marketed by a different dealer. As usual, the mileage of my car is halved and the reg date is later by a few months. However they mod it to make it much more appealing externally. I am not surprise if they change the internal organ of my car. All in all, they are just trying to make a living and earn money. With the current Lemon Law in effect, I don't think they will go to the extreme of switch work parts for faulty parts la.

Agree. I have no idea why the reg date online is diffent from my reg date. But the rest of the car are totally similar ie the mod I did, the model of my car, the colour and the year reg.

Thats why I mention before our system is still not first world. In some countries, the whole history of the car are recorded, & if there is an accident, & where.

Not to mention mandatory warranty period by the dealer. Some also have 7 days or something, return policy. Obviously & sadly, the latter will not work in Singapore, as many people will joyrode the car & return.

Even Taiwan, which should be comparable to Singapore, you have to have a cop present to claim insurance between 2 parties. Every details of the accident is settle on the spot. This prevent people from making up story, inflated claims, or denying blame after the accident, which sadly is common here. Sadly also, it will not work here, due to high rate of accidents, as well as crowded roads.

Actually I believe used car dealers do swap parts. I bought my car from ka hup last year and had a faulty original mazda 3 headunit. I complained, and surprising they offer to fix for me.

When I went down to their place, they got another used mazda 3 on sale, strip out of its headunit and switch my faulty one in. Good luck for the other guy who go that car.

odometer 'roll-back' is expected for used cars as there are hardly any traces of tampering as they can even swop out tyres to match the advertised mileage (and maybe swop back after the deal).

Perhaps Certified Pre Owns would give better assurances, or those that come with full service history.

after the 60 days period, most of them may closed shop. less vultures maybe
