RadX Moderator December 3, 2010 Share December 3, 2010 Singapore traffic authorities in call for license plate recognition Two leading transport bodies in Singapore have called for license plate recognition (LPR) systems to be installed around the country. Land Transport Authority (LTA) has issued a statement with the Traffic Police for the technology to be installed with the aim of identifying bus lane and illegal U-turn offenders. The Singaporean government has welcomed the calls for the automatic license plate recognition system, saying that innovation will be able to aid the traffic enforcement laws. Lim Hwee Hua, Singapore's minister for finance and transport, has said that the country will install LPR on a trial basis, as specialised innovation for the country's roads is important. "The use of new recognition technology will improve compliance by motorists [which leads] to greater safety and smoother traffic flows for all," she said. "In this technical trial, companies will develop License Plate Recognition Solutions customised for Singapore ↡ Advertisement

SupperTime Clutched December 3, 2010 Share December 3, 2010 No comments... people need to have their freedom to do these things like illegal U turn or road hog etc.. its not good and I dont do it, but its a necessity to let people cool down as most drivers are stressed. This might just increase the boiling point of the daily driving denizens and we might see more batman around? Scary.
Pokyman 1st Gear December 3, 2010 Share December 3, 2010 Not so innocuous as in monitoring illegal u-turns. Remember there was this bid or plan to scrap the physical ERP gantries for a next-gen ERP system? This might pave the way for us to pay ERP instead of gantries now .. .really cannot hide. . . Distance based fares are already on the buses..... This way, LTA saves money on the gantries and now can tax u wherever u go ... I think oince this is implemented, we are going to see this soon .... drive out of carpark, ERP start to tick tock liao ... either that or they track ur car and charge u if u enter certain roads like the curent ERP now ... this kind of technology can do a lot of things .. hahahhaa .... SimonTan 2nd Gear December 3, 2010 Share December 3, 2010 The best is actually just install IU reader at all traffic lights. The poles are alady there. Just need to install the reader and cabling. As a fail check, they can make use of the existing ERP gantries to install the licence plate recognisation system, it will counter check the IU with the licence plate to make sure no on cheats with the licence plate or IU at the same time. Just checking licence plate is not a good system. Licence plate can be faked easily. But IU not easy!!
