Factoring our custom tax, PARF, COE etc... + a need to make a healthy profit margin i would say they should not be too ambitious but pricing its under GTR to make some sales! TandemAssassin 1st Gear December 1, 2010 Share December 1, 2010 Haha. I think this is one of those things where either you get it or you don't. Those of us who see the unique proposition of such cars can explain until the cows come home but if you are not one of us, you will always wonder why not pay for a "better" car? Like bro biturbo will always think that a big capacity beemer will have enough muscle and will definitely pwn the Holdens. Or all those who say you will buy GTR because it is cheaper and faster. We just have different approaches and philosophies to cars. For me, a beemer will always be a beemer; it is a middle class/professional car and it has that image. Holden will always be a cowboy or redneck car. That is why I identify with Holden more than BMW. Nothing to do with performance or specs, just the way I perceive the cars. Although I would love to have a BMW M3 or a GTR or a Gallardo or a Maser or a Porker; they don't excite me or inspire the kind of lust that a Holden (and strangely, an Alfa) does. This is an irrational thing la. Buying cars in this category (>300k) is pretty much done with your heart and not your head anyway. And if our hearts all fancied the same stuff, we would all be boning the same person.
Proton_neutron 1st Gear December 1, 2010 Share December 1, 2010 (edited) kinda true.... my head tells me that with S$300k, i'd be getting a used BMW M5.... but with my heart, nothing beats that American V8 under the bonnet....and the closest that we have is the Holden.... the Holden/ Vauxhall Monaro has finally landed on our shores!!! (oh, and i don't think the HOlden is available for rental yet, so you'd probably not be seeing one anytime soon on our roads!!) Holden was sold in Singapore previously (early 90's), but the then-distributor only brought in a few boring models like the standard Commodore and Calaias. And my personal reason why I want to own one...... there are only two car brands in the world with a lion on the badge. I'm not a fan of the French Lion though, but OZ Lions are cool. I guess it'll be cheaper to buy a Chevrolet and re-badge it as a Holden... Edited December 1, 2010 by Krado

I would most definitely go for it if I had that kind of cash. Who wants a classy car? Not as if I am labouring under some illusion that I am some high class person; after all I am Singaporean. So what for have a car that is classier than me? Gimme a brutish looking car like a Holden any day. Refinement? Isn't that another word for mature/grown up/old? This car. No need to test drive, I also know I will like it. Suits my character to a T. I like saying/doing politically incorrect things just for the sake of seeing others reaction (though I draw the line when it comes to work). And nothing screams politically incorrect like a huge gas guzzling car in this green eco-mental era. :) the cheapo and purer way to be politically-incorrect:- drive a car which is at least 8-9 years old and hang last year's national day flag upside down, unwashed...... dont wash the car unless it is 29 Feb.... (inline with Clean singapore), make sure your exhaust is darker than little india..... (another Clean air and racial harmony campaign)..... if car gets dented, dont touch the dents...... if the rust gives birth to holes, use screw driver to dig the holes bigger and leave them there..... store your smelly socks on the passengers seats...... if aunty puts parking fine on your windscreen, throw them on the parking lot.......... quarter tank rule? -----> yes, fill only one quarter tank and then bash thru the check point.... Who doesn't want a muscle car? The roaring of a huge displacement V8 engine. actually aussie V8s are 'honest-fairdinkum' engines because they are straight forward and quite easy to maintain... less dependent on electronics (until recent years) but more on pure capacity to provide power and durability... because of their size, they are durable and hardy.... imagine putting a 1.6 or 2.0L car thru tens of thousands km every month for years, compare with the V8s, which one will last longer?.... oz land is a huge country and fortunate enough that petrol is not too expensive.... their cars have to cover long distances on mainly straight or unwinding roads, these V8s suit their owners' needs.... their rdtx is also 'user-friendly' ie even a 5L car only pays few hundreds buck for rego (aka rdtx) a typical 6 cyclind ford/holden family car about the size of our E-class costs about S$50k new!........... with that price we get nothing in spore Edited December 2, 2010 by KARTer

Quite agree with what you have said it's just like what a person wears is more than a piece of cloth to cover his private parts (functional), it's kinda 'statement'...... some drivers have the need to tell the world they have 'arrived' or born with a silver spoon (up their ass, hehehehe).... so they drive a certain brand/model.... some are more sure (confident) of themselves and so they drive what they really like, dont care how other perceive them..... The genuine Holdens (not the rebadged Opel/Daewoos) are quite red-neck, brute..... Personally I find their cars less excessive (engine/body size) than the Yanks..... although the two countries are about the same size.... same long distance driving..... they have produced F1 champ in the past (Jack Braham), last season almost another one... the Yanks have produced nothing (if I recall correctly).... XALmoN Neutral Newbie December 2, 2010 Share December 2, 2010 Lol, a holden thinking of taking an m3, hahahahaa.. Its funny how people are talking of taking off the chevvy badges here and putting on a holden badge, because, the jokers in australia here take off the holden badge and put on chevvy badges, especially on their v6 cars... And once again Ford vs GM.. The ford I6 turbo falcon shits all over a v8 holden, and that's the truth. ↡ Advertisement
