New Touran Vs Honda Odyssey

Touran is a good MPV to start with. Its pick up speed is infectious for the price, not to mention the cheaper cost of maintenance. Its never gonna be the class of bigger MPVs like Ody. Hope one day can drive an R class though [:p]

Faster pickup, yes. Lower maintenance cost only when the car is still very new.

Same question I have in my mind. Since the base model is also twin charged and having the same engine block, up tune it to 170bhp should be possible.

Yes its possible as I asked abt my current Touran to be tuned to higher spec, but didnt do it, no balls then hahaha...

OT a bit.

For those who had bought the Touran, may I know what's your consideration when considering between the basic and sport models? Gist of the my question would be, it there value for money if go for the sport version?

I went for the base model cos other than then navi system, cruise control, fog lights, and cosmetics (which some you can order as options), the rest are the same. For $20+K more, its alright to get the base model. One of the car magazine tested both and said the 30bhp difference is only when you torture the car haha... And if that is really something you want, I guess you can tune it.

Here's the brochure I took when I was in VW end last year. You can see the difference in spec.

Do consider the DSG problem many VW owners are facing.

DSG problem are for VW cars manufactured between mid 09 to mid 10. VW has acknowledged that

there is a mechatronic unit/clutch manufacturing problem.

thanks for the info. My current Touran has no such problem. Is this really a big issue? Even the Peugeot salesman which I went to test drive 5008 last year also tried to play up this issue.

Yes.. quite a big issue but can be fixed. VCS has changed the MU and clutch of those reported. They have also extended the warranty of their DSG to 5 yrs. Of course, some still on queue for their turn to change.
