Opel17 6th Gear November 21, 2010 Share November 21, 2010 I alway bring my laptop/work while in Genting, and thought might be useful info for others. Internet facilities in Genting : 1. cyber cafes at First World Plaza, Genting Hotel "shopping mall" - use their gaming PC for webmail/hotmail. RM10/hr [this was about 2yrs ago, not sure about current price]. I used this service twice and gave up due to very slow speed, no privacy, noisy gaming environment. 2. free wifi at KFC and McDonalds at Genting Hotel "shopping mall". 3. free wifi at Starbuck Coffee at First World Plaza, Resort Hotel Lobby. [not sure about Highlands Hotel Lobby]. 4. free wired broadband at Highlands Hotel rooms [only at Level 15]. 5. broadband modem rental at First Hotel Hotel. RM180 deposit, RM30/day, subject to availability. 6. broadband modem @RM169 and prepaid internet card @RM25 [include 5 days internet] from Digi shops at First World Plaza, Genting Hotel "shopping mall". Additional days usage top-up @RM2/days. 7. buy only the prepaid internet card @RM25 [see #6 above]. Use your own broadband modem or mobile phone [some can function as modem. I am using Samsung SGH-Z560.]. Average speed, but offset by the convenience of working in the privacy and comfort of own hotel room. * #6 & 7 should be able to use elsewhere in MY. * my sincere apologies in case of inaccurate info. Please verify on your own arrangement. Cheers !! ↡ Advertisement

Shull Turbocharged November 21, 2010 Share November 21, 2010 If you really need data connection, buy those prepaid SIM card.. if i'm not wrong, the 3G rates are RM8 for 24hr block or 100Mb of data.. forgot the exact number... but it's pretty reasonable pricing if you're using for normal email/web surfing.. The cyber-cafes at First World Shopping mall, there is RM15/hr. Ridiculously! #3. The First World Starbucks, free wifi is very good. Loads very fast! And Highlands hotel signal is VERY VERY LOW. Zxcvb Turbocharged November 22, 2010 Share November 22, 2010 For those who can't live without internet access (die die have to check email every hour), just buy the internet prepaid card. Else just bring along your laptop to starbucks or fastfood joints, all free. School holidays are here, it's gonna be a squeeze at Genting now. Appreciate advise Many thks When I bought my Digi prepaid internet card at Genting, simply paid with cash, no need for passport/document. I believe there are several MY telcos offer prepaid internet card, but the 2 shops at Genting are reseller for Digi only. I can't be certain whether your SH MBB usb stick is compatible. Suggest show to the sales staff for advise. However, high chances since my 4yrs old Samsung phone is ok.

I still see the modem rental sign on the Information Counter. You can try checking with them. Take a look at my post on 28Nov2012 and the links as well. I am now using the Worldcard Mobile prepaid card on my smartphone with wifi hotspot. Very satisfied with the speed and pricing. Do subscribe for the daily (RM6) or weekly (RM18) internet plan with unlimited free data excess usage. And remember to unsubscribe before reaching SG, otherwise the internet plan will keep rolling.
