I was thinking of setting up the dash cam to be recording 24hrs. When I spoke to the SE, they said that doing so will void the battery warranty and TEK will not do the installation for us. However, considering its only the battery warranty, I think its still better to record 24hrs because its more worthwhile than trying to settle an accident without evidence.

I am curious if anyone really had any issues with battery or car systems after installing 24hrs recording?

Also, since this is my first car in SG, I don't have any workshop lobang. Any kind brother can recommend where to do this?

can consider to use external battery pack.

There might be possibility that AD will void your warranty claim due to external battery pack. There was a case of a car that caught fire in the street earlier this year. Agent claim that the external battery pack was the cause of fire due to incorrect wiring of power from the car battery, and deny liability.  Apparently the agent noted down the external battery pack during one of the routine servicing.

Might be a shoddy battery pack, or shoddy installation of the battery pack wiring connection.
Quality type devices and proficient installation should be totally no safety issue.

Tek only provide 1yr warranty for the car battery n it cost me $150 to replace my Q85 start stop battery

Last time I used to tap power directly from my car battery n it last almost 3yrs with 24hrs parking mode n those external batt r freaking expensive, so it doesn't make sense for me to buy an external batt

I did my IROAD and external battery pack with JDM auto care on my old Hyundai and later ported it over to my current Mazda ... they specialise in Mazdas. Look for CY.

Whether if it's the battery pack that cause the car to catch fire, nobody knows, but these are things that AD will used against you if something happen and you claim warranty.

@shawn207 Thank you for the recommendation.

Based on initial research, I am not keen to use external battery pack, for 2 reasons: a) Fire and Electrical Risk, b)Battery pack can maybe run the cam for about 24 hrs max and that is assuming that the battery is fully charged. This might not be enough depending on the erratic usage nowadays.

However, I will speak to the workshop to understand the options better.

Thanks to everyone for your input.

P/S: Also, I just found small scratches on my driver car door yesterday. Small but painful. First time always painful. And I know it came from the carpark cleaner who was pulling the hose roughly around the cars cos the scratch pattern same as the dirt marks.

I think it depends on the brand and model of your existing cam. I used to own a Blackvue and I could tap the battery w/o draining the car battery due to Power Magic Pro. It seems like the Bosch one TEK gave can support but TEK advised against it bcos they wouldn't want us to claim their batteries has short life span. Hence in the end, I choose iroad 's battery pack and JDM is one of iroad's authorized installers. They are not the cheapest but i chose them because I have good experiences with them previously on my VW and also bcos they are near my workplace. In fact, even though I only installed the iroad external battery with them, they were most helpful to help me to trouble shoot when I told them the back camera is not working. They proved to me that there was nothing wrong with their installation and I took a video to show the Bosch supplier and he relented and replaced a new set with a new memory card as well.

@arataka  U can look for battery pack in Shopee/Lazada or Qoo10. Prices should be inclusive of installation. Most of the audio shops around has these and they can install under the front passenger seat. Reputable brands will be iroad & thinkware. Just a note, if your current car cam set-up has a screen, I suggest u keep it on when driving. I had the Bosch ones (Free with car) and the back cam was not showing/recording and I realised only when I turn the display on to permanent when driving. Got used to the glare after a while but it sure beats having it and then realizing that it was malfunctioning. In any case, I got the Bosch replaced once and have since moved on to Thinkware. The battery pack I got was iroad from JDM.

May I ask which model of Thinkware did you installed?

2-channel?

Or single channel x 2 units?

@DOBIEMKZ

I got the 2 channel X700. Need to pay a monthly subscription for a SIM card to be installed. Apparently it can trigger a "Impact" notification to my handphone in the event my car is parked and there was an accident while my car is parked.  I'm allowed 2 live view per day.

So it is a cloud dashcam.
The SIM card subscription is for a wifi hotspot inside your car ?

iSTOP
Agreed on iStop, versus some other makes and models, I found that the iStop is completely within my control (there is a "trigger point" on the brake based on how hard I depress) and I typically choose to activate it on my own at the lights depending on conditions. If I know it's going to be red for awhile, I'd activate it. So perhaps its on older models or makes for Mazda which might be different in terms of the activation. So I am perplexed as to other people spending extra money to disable this completely. Again might be because the older models worked differently.

Hi Kopickosong,

Do be perplexed and let safety related braking does its job and not promoted "smart" braking because of istop if you wish to keep istop activated:

PS: keep reading about creative way to avoid istop but advise sincerely not to mess around with how to manage safety related braking but brake as intended and naturally .. just get sgd50 disable module from aliexpress that I had installed for last 3 yrs

Btw, if you cannot discern the difference in dsg gearing compared to cvt, I am quite surprised since you have quite a stable of beemer, camry, vw and mazda.

I have the latest mazda 6 executive.

Cheers.

Not entirely sure what you’re saying in your post, a little incoherent.

I don’t think I was promoting anything relating to braking safely, i stop has nothing to do with braking safely btw, it’s a fuel saving mechanism.

Can you enlighten me as to which part of my posts did I say there was no difference in DSG and CVT?

Hi kopickosong,

Below and why promote this "tigger point" and not use the brakes as intended just to avoid istop ?

(there is a "trigger point" on the brake based on how hard I depress)

Sorry for the statement below corrected that hope is more coherent now:

Sorry for being incoherent to you but then you were also perplexed.

Cheers.

Richard

The supposed trigger point is when the car is already at stand still and it’s just how deep you step in to the brake activate the istop. It doesn’t get activated unless the brake is depressed deeply. Not sure how the above doesn’t use brakes as intended btw. That is exactly how Mazda has designed their cars, at least the newer models , which is why I asked why are people installing aftermarket solutions to disable istop.

Suggest you re-read the response as other owners seem to “get it”.
