if mourinho wins the la liga in his firts season, then he truly deserve the reputation "special one ", for this is indeed a feat of hat trick of title in 3 different countries.

not forgetting his first league, the Portuguese league title with Porto...

ok, it's a small league but he also led Porto to UEFA and Champions League champions

When you face with the way Chelsea and Man City are building, you tell me you can keep up without spending? Do you know that since EPL started, the placing of the teams are closing mirrored the cost of the squad with only a few exceptions (Liverpool in 08/09 is one of such, they are the 5th costliest squad but achieved 2nd).

He did not complain until the owners start to siphon money out. Instead of thanking him for exposing the two farkers, you are unhappy that he spoke up.

it is very easy to blame money for any problem in the perfromance. if he was sacked for not being able to achieve number 1 in BPL, i would have said your reasons can still stand up to scrutiny. chelsea spent and they got their title for few seasons and never once got out of BPL top 4. as for man city, i don't think highly of mancini too. I would have favored him to get the sack as well.

he was sacked for losing the support of the squad (there was extensive discussion about how he had lost the support of key players, including stevie g) and allowing the them to fall to such a low standing in the BPL unbefitting of the status of pool. i seriously don't think rafa spend less than wenger. and wenger never had his squad fall out of the top 4, not even once, much less twice. the teams that dislodged pool from the top 4 on these 2 occasions, everton and spurs, also had modest budgets to work with.

of course, if liverpool were a smaller club of smaller standing and ambition, I would have said that there is no problem to have a manager that could not deliver them the top 4 consistently despite not spending less than a rival manager in the BPL top 4.

i wouldn't credit him for exposing the problems caused by hicks and gillett. like i say, even when he had no such problems at Valencia, he was already complaining not enough money to buy players. he looks to me more like someone who likes to use money as excuse or insurance against future inept performance. he is always comparing the $ at his disposal against the $ at disposal of managers of some well backed teams like barce, real madrid, man u and chelsea.

true test of mourinho skill

bring liverpoo to the title!

so far he only won titles with top tier talents inter. chelsea. real madrid.

can he win with a 2nd class team like poo?

this, i agree. if he can take liverpool to the helm like with Porto, then i say he is truly great.

When he spend tons on rubbish players. Wonder whr is J22. He will sure come in n say, he got sell players what. <_<

I in reservist.

No i wont say he got sell player.i say he have to sell to buy.

anyway, lets wait till the end of the season than decided.

Jose go to inter when the others team are still rebuilding (AKA no competition). while Rafa took over when the others major team had finish rebuilding. And Jose Inter dont play football while Rafa inter play football.

I always believe that a top teams should play to entertain.

You can have your views but I beg to differ.

Sacked for losing support of players and 7th placing being unacceptable are excuses. Roy are still being backed by the owners despite losing more support from players and fans and with performance so bad that no living Liverpool fans have ever witnessed.

Everton only finished above us once during his first season and Spurs rightfully overtook us in his final season as they out spent us in 2-3 seasons when we were stagnant. I am not using lack of funds to defend Rafa, I am just stating the fact that money plays a big part in determining success.

In any case, Rafa is gone and I defended him because I do not think it is fair to blame him for the state we are now. In my eyes, he will always be remembered as the manager who brought us back into European stage and for that, he will have my respect.

On Wenger, yes I think arsenal spent less than us in buying, but nett spent should be around the same. During these few years, did Arsenal win any major trophies? I do not think so. That further illustrate the point, the more you can spend, the more chance you can come in first.

John is very impressed with Arsenal model and his blueprint for Liverpool will be more or less the same.

I've supported liverpool since 1994.

I can safely say that Rafa will never win the league even if he got the millions from Roman or Sheikh.

Play football. really...

Rafa is really an imitator of jose. The counter attacking style, the overly defensive approach.

Even though i dislike man u, 90% of the time, they produce more entertaining football then i've watched liverpool dish out since the 1990s when robbie fowler, macca were still arnd.

Blackpool plays better football than LFC lo

There is no doubt abt the power of $$$.

Purely from a football perspective, i would rather watch arsenal than liverpool in most matches.

That's the real reason y no one F arsene wenger [:/]

We started supporting Liverpool around the same time. During Fowler's time, we are already in the decline. Even then, we are still able to compete in transfer market, both Phil Babb and Stan Collymore were signed on record fees. Thereafter, we lost ground on that.

To say that Rafa plays defensive football, I cannot agree. If his is defensive, what's Roy? Rafa style is one that press upfield, keep possession and built from the back.

You ask the Inter fans, they see what's the difference on how the team play under the 2 managers. Imitation? Far from it.

Without the millions, Rafa came agonisingly close in 2009 and you telling he will not win it with better players who can be bought at higher price tags?

Oei dun drag arsenal in

Ok seriously, in the case of arsenal what AW did does not only involve the football aspect but arsenal as a whole. To allow to compete with man u on the same financial standing. Sacrifices has to be made and hopefully we can see the fruit of it soon.

Whereas rb was only involved in the football aspect, I believed he tried to emulate AW on the financial aspect but did not have the backing of the board. Therefore cannot compare :D

You have brought up a good point. Arsenal as a whole is more united. Liverpool was in a total disharmony. Owners against board, CEO against manager, manager against key players.

I can understand why John like the Arsenal set up so much.

I agree. Houllier < Rafa but Rafa also < the top managers.

In fact, long term wise, i doubt that Villa under Houllier would do better than what Martin O'Neill has done.

Build from the back? How many games i've watched long ball plays.

Keep possession and build from the back is what the current chelsea plays.

What we play is counter attacking football.

How many players have Benitez truly improved over the years?

The only ones i can think are the ones with truly great talents

- gerrard, torres obviously, reina & few of the other defensive players

All the attacking players other than the above (Benayoun, Alonso, Babel and many other players) have stagnated under his regime.

These players most of them are arrogant and spoilt prima donnas but at least the other managers have managed their players better.

Why we came close in 2009 was because Alonso was out to prove a point that He did not deserve to be sold.

Unfortunately, Man U had the best player in the world at that time, CR

CR cost - 12mil pounds

Alonso cost - 10.5 mil pounds

Rafa is probably a nice guy in real life but he just doesn't have the PR skills with his own players.

Only Reina & Torres made any noise when Rafa left. Quite telling.

In an imaginary world of football, would u really give your best for a manager like Rafa?

A manager who doesn't even talk much to his own players other than to criticise them?

We are playing long ball now. Is that how Rafa play? LNG balls are usually from Reina, to take advantage of his accurate kicks. The 2 defensive midfielders are not just there to protect, but also to bring the ball up. With ball playing defenders like Agger, he will sometimes bring the ball up too. Full backs are encouraged to attack, suit Riise, Insua and Johnson.

All these are gone, replaced by Roy's single dimension route 1 tactic.

Players improved under Rafa? Reina, Agger, Mascherano, Lucas, Gerrard, Kuyt, Torres. To a certain extent, they look good because Rafa play to their strength and they enjoys learning from Rafa.

Rafa is not the best around, but I am pretty certain he is one of the best in his age group.

wow.

easy

Terry, Drogba, Lampard, Essien, Cech? Lol...

Alonso was a different type of player when he 1st came to liverpool.

If anyone remember the 1st time he played Man U (when gerrard couldn't play), i was truly elated when he showed the aggression & passing ability which i thought would make him the no.1 player in LFC.

He improved defensively but overall as a player i felt that then he showed a potential to be a player close to xavi's standard.

From the 1st day he stepped into Anfield, Xabi could already pass at the same level as his current level.

Pls don't credit Benitez for that.
