Ahtong 1st Gear November 9, 2010 Share November 9, 2010 Shown on Discovery Channel at 11pm on Mondays, this program is about a group of activists who want to stop the Japs from hunting whales near Antartica. I find it compelling viewing because the activist are a bit and their seamanship seems amateurish, meaning to say they are a disaster waiting to happen. Although I consider it cruel to kill whales, the activist tactics of throwing stink bombs and boarding the whaling ships is . Chief instigator is none other than the captain, who gives me the impression of being an attention seeker rather than a conservationist. ↡ Advertisement
Jlyb86 Neutral Newbie November 9, 2010 Share November 9, 2010 Would be counted more like extreme conservationist. Will do ANYTHING it takes to reach the goal. Double edge sword, but in this case no choice as legal method are just not working. Watch the cove, not a bad show too :)
Ahtong 1st Gear November 9, 2010 Author Share November 9, 2010 What channel is the cove on? I think if they are unhappy about whaling, they should persist through legal means because what the Japs are doing is technically legal. The current method is nice for TV but I don't know how effective it really is. Feel the captain is quite irresponsible and leading on a bunch of impressionable kids. Zenithpool 2nd Gear November 9, 2010 Share November 9, 2010 I believe you are referring to Sea Shepherd, or The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Saw a few of the series. The crew are all volunteers, which some of them had never board a ship in their entire life.

Adrianli Hypersonic November 9, 2010 Share November 9, 2010 (edited) This is an old series shown last year on SCV also. The recent whale wars involve the Earthrace boat. The angry Jap ram the Earthrace boat, broke her bow and she sank. This was the bigger news and more exciting. http://www.earthrace.net/index.php?section=1 Earthrace was an amazing powerboat that holds the record for a powerboat to circumnavigate the globe (60 days, 23 hours, 49 minutes). The new world record was completed in 27 June 2008 by skipper and founder of Earthrace, Pete Bethune, and his volunteer International crew. Throughout, the boat was run on 100% biofuel with a net carbon zero footprint in order to draw attention to the need for renewable fuels and sustainable living. The Union Internationale Motonautique presented a certificate to the team in Italy on 24 October 2009 in official recognition of the world recrord. Soon after that, it was announced that the Earthrace and its skipper, Pete Bethune, would accompany the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) in its 2009-10 operation (named 'Waltzing Matilda') against the Japanese whaling fleet in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. Sea Shepherd noted that the vessel would be the only one in the fleet fast enough to keep up with all the Japanes vessels. The boat was painted black, refitted and strengthened with extra carbon and kevlar, and re-named The Ady Gil, after the benefactor, a Hollywood lighting-equipment magnate) who donated $1 million towards the purchase of the boat for SSCS. On 5 January 2010, the Earthrace/Ady Gil was rammed by the vJapanese whaling essel Shonan Maru #2. All the crew (with the exception of our mascot, 'Eartha' ) were rescued by Sea Shepherd Sadly, the boat sunk a few days later. You can read rest of the story, including Pete's detention and court case in Japan Edited November 9, 2010 by Adrianli

Think of it as free open sea where anyone can do anything. You either do nothing or you fight. No other options. But I just don't like what those conversation people are doing. Freaking weaklings man..... I will take parang and guns and slaughter those bloody japs. Feed them to sharks.... Can never forget what they did to us during WWII. Its payback time!!!!
