Take a look at the latest BMW diesel engine esp. the twin turbo engine. Its HP is 302HP with a whopping 600Nm of torque!!

By contrast, BMW's N54B30 (a 3L turbo engine) produces ~330HP and 450Nm torque.

Can fight even evos and WRX easily (stock for stock of course). But the 600Nm toruqe allows the diesel car to pull ahead long before the WRX or Evo's turbo kicks in....

bro, ppl know this fact from long ago liao... if not for the high tax on diesel, everybody switch to diesel liao

Once TurboCharge High Compression Petrol/Gasoline Direct Injection becomes mainstream , u won't envy diesel engine anymore .

Add to that the REASON why Clean Diesel is not widely use in SG is health matters though emmision is cleaner but more harmful to human body , some examples below taken from net

The components of diesel exhaust undergo atmospheric transformation and become more potent mutagens and carcinogens. It is evident from latest researches that the cancer potency of diesel vehicles is more than double the same of gasoline vehicles. The carcinogenic effects of diesel particulates is 24 times greater than that of Gasoline and 84 times greater than that of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

One must use better grade of diesel to get that kinda figures. Sgp only has one grade of diesel to choose from. The diesel grade in Europe is same price as their petrol grade there and has premium diesel for their tc diesel engines. So you can forget about it.

Even the petrol variant can beat evo & rex liao lah.

Anyway, Turbo diesel cars have been dominating LE Mans for quite a while liao. I have a colleague back when I was working oversea that swear by only diesel car.

Beside, Diesel sound cooler, Imagine Fast & Furious starring Vin Petrol!!! [laugh]

i think u need to read more in depth instead of google/copy/paste and appear to be knowledgeable

most conti engines regardless petrol/dieseleven those 5-10yr ago engine blocks are able to meet euro4 emissions which japs have to spend the past 3-4yrs making new blocks from scratch (kia/hyundai..etc) or increase capacity to meet emissions (subaru/mitsu..etc)

Well, I believe thats the reason why diesel has a particulate filter. Its to filter out such harmful particulates. Due to progression of engine technology, diesel engines today are even more environmental friendly than some petrol engines.

Regardless of price, diesel gives better milage than gasoline. 1 Ltr of diesel can go farhter than 1 litre of petrol.

That's why diesel cars are heavily taxed here. Just to keep the running cost of passenger vehicles high. [thumbsdown]

Singapore really damn slow in adapting these new engine standards. Diesel engines are most prolly as or not more efficient than petrol engines. Not to mention hella torquer too

Even petrol also slow.... Other countries already have E5 or E10 petrol we still don't have..... Still no biodiesel also...... damm lousy.....

It is not Singapore is slow in adapting new engine standards. Please bear in mind that there is no diesel tax, only petrol tax. If there's no SPECIAL tax and everybody starts buying diesel cars, where are they going to get their salary from?

Btw, biodiesel is available in Singapore.

Most of the taxis on our road are fitted with turbo diesel engines... Skoda, Sonata, Merc.. just to name some. If the taxi drivers are "hiong" enough, they are able to escape from the Orange-Striped WRX on the expressways! [wave]

Errr.... I don't really agree on the diesel tax part. Thats because the amt consumers pay for diesel is considerably higher than those cabs (they do pay diesel tax of I think $5K a year). The cabbies are paying a lower price for the diesel (last heard from a driver around 80C) compared to $1.3 for regular diesl price.

This means we are already paying a tax. Putting special tax on diesel cars is like double taxing.

Regarding biodiesel, I did read about it on papers but I have yet to see a petrol station putting up sign that says biodiesel. Its extremely scarce just like CNG.... Have is like don't have....
