Nutsack Clutched November 8, 2010 Share November 8, 2010 Any kind soul(s) willing to share the treatment (Oriental/Western) for such illness? I heard out from a western doctor that it can be contained but not cured. Some relatives commented that Chinese Medicine can cure this illness? I'd suggest going to the hospital. Death can arise from complications though rare. My mom had it TWICE in her lifetime when she was in her 40s. She tried some traditional remedies her first time but they either stemmed the growth temporarily at best or were entirely ineffective at worst. But what makes these "remedied" dangerous is not hat they'd kill, but cause they delay the patient getting actual medical help during which time things can get worse. But that's my view. I'm not a doctor. My mom's second time was actually bad enough that she landed in hospital. it wasn't life-threatening but she was warded for a week. Totally gone after her stay and she hasn't got it ever since. That was 10 years ago when I was a kid.
999 3rd Gear November 8, 2010 Share November 8, 2010 Now aday think it is rare to find TCM that does this anymore. There's a TCM opposite Tiong Bahru Plaza, forgot the address. The guys simply poke with needle and burn the ends, before that he using a sting to measure but I don't know what he's measuring.
Chewbacca 1st Gear November 8, 2010 Share November 8, 2010 It's viral. I doubt there's any real chinese medicine cure. Perhaps contain it enough that it breaks out so rarely that it's considered 'cured'.

Watwheels Supersonic November 8, 2010 Share November 8, 2010 Shingles is actually the 2nd stage of chicken pox. True, it can only be contained. Ppl above the age of 60 is more prone to getting this.

The red string that goes round your head is actually to size-up and locate the head of the "snake" after which the guy performing the rite will use a lighted joss stick and poke the spot. You will then scream "YeeeeeoooooooWWWWWW!" Tsk tsk tsk . . . . fake one lah, better go see Western doctor . . . . the more expensive medcine will take a shorter time to cure you. That time I kena, I paid for cheapo medcine and it took me half a year to recover.
Darryn Turbocharged November 8, 2010 Share November 8, 2010 Big thing to remember is that you are contagious with Shingles, the rash itself can be treated, but time is the only cure. And yes - do seek treatment, it can be dangerous!

Sirex Neutral Newbie November 8, 2010 Share November 8, 2010 The total opposite happened to me. No sign of recovery after two weeks of antibiotics and western medicine. Terrible swell on the left side of my forehead. Got someone to catch snake and remove it successfully! I am a strong believer in science and western medicine but it worked! Amazing! Genie47 1st Gear November 8, 2010 Share November 8, 2010 Its a virus. Antibiotics will not cure it of course. Antibiotics only work against bacteria. Again, let me say the word and please utter it to your GP. Acyclovir. If you want to use brand names. Cyclovir, Herpex, Acivir, Acivirax, Zovirax, Aciclovir and Zovir
