Rich pple are mostly penny pinchers My granddad was a multi millionaire, but he still took the bus here and there You're seriously telling me that buying a red-plate Cayman = saving money? More than just buying a Toyota? Really? Your bus-taking granddad will buy a porsche? I'm not questioning that he saves money buying a red plate Cayman, than buying a regular plate Cayman. BUT, won't he save more by buying a 370z? Or any other car? That's the question. If he's the thrifty sort, why's he buying a Cayman? I'm just very very confused. And very curious about his rationale behind that decision. Like, why? Haha.

My granddad used to have a ahmad driver and a old merc. when the driver retired, he sold off the car and switched to public transport haha. I think he was too old for a porsche, but a viable alternative would be to take a taxi. The point i am trying to get thru is if there is no good reason to spend that $$$, why not save it up ? Unfair 3rd Gear November 2, 2010 Share November 2, 2010 A wealthy friend i have can afford to fly to aussie for a weekend getaway, even spend 1 mth in a serviced apartment there. But when buying a camera < 1k can go hunting around for the best deal. Even if you have $$$, does not mean you should pay lavish prices

So why is he buying a red-plate Cayman when u can save more money buying a Merc C Class? Or something? You know what i mean? I'm not saying why he got money buy Cayman also wanna save money. I'm saying, he's actually not being smart with his money when he can save a lot more buying a cheaper car.
Nutsack Clutched November 2, 2010 Author Share November 2, 2010 It's like people who only intended to buy 1 bag of chips which costs $1, and never intended to eat more than that. But when he sees a promo saying to buy 3 packs for $2.50. He buys three instead saying that it saves him money. It's irrational cos he could've saved more buying the intended one pack. like, hur? RadX Moderator November 2, 2010 Share November 2, 2010 Some interesting thoughts here....but the most logical is that he maybe drives weekends, and has a 1st car to fit his needs....and the $20/day can actually go for about 850 days.....and if you count weekends out, that is about for 3 years...and after that he most prolly sell car after or close to warranty over.... get my drift? the $17k is upfront, but the $20 is over a long time and as you use

Than to buy a slightly more expensive Cayman and get some savings back by having a red plate? There are SLKs, 370z, Audi TTs... it'd be the same px as a red plate Cayman, only you have a regular plate? I know there are reasons why, but they don't make sense to me. Am I the only one who feels puzzled and "????!!" when I see a red plate Alfa GT, or Cayman or BMW 335? To save that measly <20k? Why not save more and buy a cheaper car? [crazy] Anyone else with similar sightings and/or opinions? can you afford a cayman, either red plate or regular plate? can or not first? if cannot, then no point asking. cos you will never understand unless you have that kinda spending money... But once again, the savings ARE significant over time, when you take into account the 17k, then the savings on roadtax... ↡ Advertisement
