Nutsack Clutched November 2, 2010 Share November 2, 2010 ... the rationality behind having a red plate (OPC) white Porsche Cayman. I saw a white Porshe Cayman with a red plate. And I'm a little puzzled as to... Why? Why can't the owner simply buy a slightly cheaper can and have a regular plate. Than to buy a slightly more expensive Cayman and get some savings back by having a red plate? There are SLKs, 370z, Audi TTs... it'd be the same px as a red plate Cayman, only you have a regular plate? I know there are reasons why, but they don't make sense to me. Am I the only one who feels puzzled and "????!!" when I see a red plate Alfa GT, or Cayman or BMW 335? To save that measly <20k? Why not save more and buy a cheaper car? [crazy] Anyone else with similar sightings and/or opinions? ↡ Advertisement

Metblue Neutral Newbie November 2, 2010 Share November 2, 2010 If the owner has another car which he is using for his daily commuting, and the Porsche Cayman is only for fun driving during off peak periods, I think it makes perfect sense to register it as a red plate. 17k might not be a huge amount to him, but it's still saving. Unfair 3rd Gear November 2, 2010 Share November 2, 2010 (edited) You will not become rich if you spend $$$ like that. 17k + road tax saved is still $$$. Rich pple are mostly penny pinchers My granddad was a multi millionaire, but he still took the bus here and there Edited November 2, 2010 by Unfair
Mazdaowner Moderator November 2, 2010 Share November 2, 2010 Told you not to drive your car out, not you have nutsack in a blur on why did so with a red plate. One true story, a certain boss of a security company, owns a Rolls Royce, registers it OPC, have his driver drive him to work before 7am, parks it in OCBC, then the driver takes the train back to his home to drive his wife around in a Japanese car, and returns after 7pm to drive the RR with him home. People in the know, will know whop I'm talking about.

Chongster 6th Gear November 2, 2010 Share November 2, 2010 i think it makes perfect sense. so long as you are not a regular driver for whatever reason, red plate is the way forward. trying to own a car when you cant really afford it is the thing that doesn't make sense, whether red plate or black plate.
