Why not an Aston Martin?

why is there no aston martins? simple. for people with money who want to make an impression, the sight of a bright yellow ferrari in their garage is enough to turn heads. you dont have to know how much it costs. heck, you dont even have to know anything about cars. but the standing stallion badge is enough to convince. once again, the power of branding.

at the end of the day when it's at supercar level, it all boils down to what the buyer wants. he has the spending power for it.

then again, i prefer the Bentley.

^^I think most of us do not have much experience with AM or even other supercar brands. Since you are the one that is plonking down the money, driving and maintaining it, you have to make the final call. You should search out international AM forums and post your questions there and get feedback from AM owners rather than bystanders.

Personally, I love AM design but have no real life experience in its handling, build quality, reliability etc.

Besides AM, why not consider Maserati, Bugatti, Spyker, Koenigsegg and other similar vehicles?

Lets put away the point that everything boils down to the owner. :) We are in Singapore and I am real curious why there is just some of us buying a beauty like the AM and I am wondering why the brand never took off? I had listed mine, I do want hear our local opinions on this.

For instance, in the past, whenever you hear of a car burning on our express ways, they are either Alfa or Maserati mainly. As the result, for many years they sold very badly in Singapore and almost went MIA in Singapore. The 8C, its really a head turner but the project never really did took of due to its hugely infavorable critics on and offline which desuades many ables from owning one.

Bugatti is over and beyond my ability and the rest still has a long way to be on my radar. With internet around we are no strangers to far-land breeds of fuel gusseling super cars which makes no sense in any where in the world to own one. IMHO...no one actually needs a super car as it is a want not a need.

BUT...I really hope to understand why don't more of us buy an AM VS other German or Italian super cars?

... which year which camp? family in the car biz? if you're 32 then probably not...

m8 = mate

LOL...My family was in car business but now into some high-end retail business. Then again its half right that I have a rich father because my father will never bother to farm my stable. :( if not I would have more than 1 super cars in my stable and my father has none!

32 is my lucky number because my dad is 33, I remember those days where my father does his magic where he used to be a pre-loved car dealer. He is my idol even till today but my number plate isn't 33 or 32...instead they all have 6s, hahahahaha....3+3=6 mah! hahahahaha....If its a 2 door car, it will be 6! If it is a 4 door car, it will be 6XX6.

Liew....you really very curious ley and you are right that I am not 32 infact I am in my late 20s. [;)]

As the matter of fact...I will love to meet up if possible? :)

ok doks [:)] cause my mate owns the telecom services in some parts of the world. refrain from asking me on how he did it rite cause im not into his line of business. also, he drives the beemer 7's, XC90, and a merc. told me once in 2008 that he intended to scrap the XC90 and go for some supercar aka chick magnet. well, by all means if you have the money, why not? theres a fine line drawn here by the forumers (including myself) to give feedback on what you would like to expect/hear here. assuming 95% of us have not really drive/being driven/drove in a supercar, we cant really get in the detail would we?

in fact, we do share two things in common mate. 1) James Bond and 2) AM. My current ride is known to be a poor mans ferrari but if i really can afford to get my first supercar, the latter would be in my mind 24/7. its just art (branding) + passion (JB made it popular) for me. im not totally intrigued with the perfomance really (after reading from sources), but it sure does have a legacy and the man behind it [thumbsup]

I'm puzzled really. For someone who owns several high-end performance cars to seek opinions on other performance cars from common folks in a online car forum.

I'm sure you know better about an Aston than all of us in fact you should ask your father since he deals with cars previously, i am certain he has the wealth of experience you seek.

If i may give me constructive feedback in your aid, i would suggest you make a trip down to the Aston showroom to a test drive. I'm sure the friendly salesperson will be glad to assist you

especially once he catches a glimpse of your rides [;)] . All joking aside i am sure a man with your resources can swagger into any car showroom in Singapore and request for a test drive without the worry of

rejection, no need for the trouble of seeking information online. For i can see you are really putting in some effort and much of your precious time, which can be channeled to more constructive activities, into seeking answers you may not find.

Oh yes one more thing, pardon me if you are beginning to find me irritating already but your predicament of having a rich father who never bother to farm your stable really spoke to me. I know how that feels

but hey at least people like us experience both sides of the coin. 1 side having tasted luxury and the other having the opportunity to work hard to prove ourselves.

I'm 27 this year and i am looking to purchase my dream car by next year (i simply adore the italian stallion ^_^ ) Some might call it a tall order or a fat dream but hey, as long as i work hard and its possible why not? haha.

WOW...your mate is really cool! Can I confess? Although I have these beauties in my stable but I still take a lot of Taxi, Bus and MRTs...sometimes it really nice to be in touch with my roots because I wasn't borned with a silverspoon. Ikea's CEO and Founder drives a Volvo and flies Economy Class when he travels, keeping my foot firm on the ground it's as important as soaring the skies if possible. Forgive me if i am wrong ok...I think my dear hanzo is driving an Evo if not a Civic Type R or seriously quick japanese wet dream...Seriously I once belonged to the streets...:X OPPS! Whatever you are driving I bet you love it and that is very important!

AM is quickly taking up the spot that the Ferrari had in me and I promised myself that my first super car will be a Aston Martin V12 Vantage. If not for my 3 little angels and planning to have more, I would already have at least a R8. Yup...It is school holidays always for me because living in a 20+K sqft house, I have plenty of space to fill my childhood dreams with while working hard but not chasing it. Is it just that difficult to learn that there are powerhouse living amoung us like anyone? I believe there are some of us which are super powerhouse and they maybe watching us from afar...

First thing first...This thread is titled "Why not an Aston Martin?" that means that I am asking upon something that I don't understand and hoping to be enlighten. Knowing the level of in-sensitivity of the topic, I had apologized "FIRSTLY" on this thread if it irritates anybody.

Second, My dad didn't sell any super cars in his days running a pre-loved joint, the most that he sold was a Mercedes 350 or 380SEC now they call it a CL, some porsche 924 or something 933 which a model of the RX-8 looks like, they are called classics now. Having said that anyone would know more about cars than my dad by now.

Third, My childhood days are rough, many a time I do not have enough. I was rised in a one room flat in Toa payoh and I am bless that things had changed. Mostly I still travel by Bus, Taxi or MRT because I hate to travel in traffics and I don't believe anyone besides my family should be driving us because we are not that hyper rich as yet. My dad always tells me "To listen cost nothing and by not listening carefully would cost you everything." As far as I want to soar the sky, I want to keep my foot on the ground as I would always like to remember my humble beginnings.

Fourth: I hope to learn something from this thread about my dream car which all of my friends contested to the idea. I was hoping that proud Aston Martin owner could share his/her exprience and also learn from fellow forumers on why they wouldn't get an Aston and I had raised my concerns to begin with. Although I had spend most of today on this topic but I enjoy it...constructive or not I don't care because I have found greater pleasure in making friends and learning :) which no amount of money could be tagged.

Fifth: I am very proud of you...being at your age you are about to become a owner of a Ferrari, I bet you can teach me a thing or two towards getting there, that is if you don't mind:) The truth is that I had went to Aston's showroom and I am very impressed with the salesperson's service despite the fact that I told her that I wasn't going to buy and I took off after 20mins, feeling bad about wasting her time. She offered to let me have a test drive of the V12 Vantage but it is just not me to try something that I am not prepared to buy. I know that I will buy it after test driving it and I know my folks and wife is going to kill me but mostly I was thinking of my current and future angels as I planned to have 6 children if possible. I'll be cheering for you from here and hopefully I would be a happy owner of a V12 Vantage just as quickly:)

Hey Gambel, "poor mans ferrari" refers to an Alfa Romeo in Singaporean terms [drivingcar] . I know in some countries its termed as Maserati (who many assumed). and no, i dont fancy Evo or Type R (although both are power packed with hyper-torqued machines). Let me share with you how about my nick became me. i'm a superbike enthusiast in actual fact. my previous ride was a japanese massive giant that soars 320km/hr when i demand for speed. i am (still) a member of a recognized sports touring/racing group in singapore. i do admire japanese culture and things associated with the yakuzas and samurai (thats why my avatar is ONI, [sly] the demon). But sadly (gladfully in fact), i gave up my passion of riding after tying the knot early this year. Im drooling at the sight of a Ducati 1098R [laugh] everytime it passes by, but knowingly that my messers safety is important :excl: , i would'nt want to take the risk. so what the heck rite, since i can't get the bike, might as well settle for a reliable italian car. at least my messers can drive it when im outstation like, now [thumbsup]
