Circumstance has not been a helpful ally to Roy Hodgson in his first couple of months as manager of Liverpool, yet Anfield legend John Aldridge believes his future will come under relentless scrutiny over the next couple of months.

With the explosive takeover battle at Anfield - a harrowing nightmare that is quickly being banished to the history books by Liverpool fans - all associated with the club can focus their attention on faltering players once again. That may be an ideal scenario for Hodgson given his side's precarious position among the relegation battlers.

Liverpool may only have played eight games prior to the visit or Blackburn to Merseyside last weekend, yet Aldridge believes the boss who took on the daunting task of succeeding Rafael Benitez last summer is already close to reaching the point of no return.

Defeat against Blackburn last weekend may well have propelled John W Henry and his recently installed Liverpool boardroom team to trigger the search for their own manager, but a 2-1 victory against Sam Allardyce's battlers gave Hodgson some much needed breathing space as he attempts to revive a side that has been lacking in confidence all season.

Aldridge was a firm supporter of Hodgson's appointment last summer, but he expects the new Anfield hierarchy to keep all options open in the coming weeks.

"It sounds crazy to say a manager is under pressure after just eight games in charge, but that was certainly the position Hodgson found himself in on Sunday," he said. "The new owners have not put

Yeah we need someone better not one who is happy to barely beat BB. We should be thrashing teams like that.

we need a manager who hate ManU.

but the good managers won't want to go pool

no offence but top tier managers will want to go to a club that is challenging for the title

not one floundering on the wrong end of the table with no money to spend

He is contradicting himself. How can a poor squad left behind by Rafa has a decent XI? We are lacked in depth, whose fault is that? Rafa?

We might as well blame Rafa for the death of Paul.

"No one underestimates the scale of the rebuilding job required at Anfield because Rafael Benitez left behind a poor squad when he walked away from the club with his bumper pay day," Aldridge continued. "Liverpool's first choice XI is decent, but the players who need to fill the gaps are not good enough and that has been shown time and again.

ai yeah. he deluded lah.

Seriously, this squad is better than the one GH left behind.

what is the different now and then??

when GH left. there is only 2 title credible teams (Man U and Chelsea).

When RB left. there is at least 5 titles credible teams excluding liverpool.

Agree. If Rafa has left behind a poor squad for Roy, GH must have left behind a poorer one for Rafa. How is Rafa able to conquer Europe with that squad but Roy can't even beat Northampton and Blackpool?

Blame Torres for not scoring enough is lame as well. Staved of quality service and you expect Torres to put what into the net? His boots?

Poor performance, but good result. Carragher needs to go, his handball was so blatant that any other referee would have given the penalty, and he kept hoofing the ball upfield aimlessly or into the stands. Time to bow out with grace Carra, your best days are behind you. Maxi was class and Ngog has matured so much I barely recognized him as a player anymore, the moment he came on the team completely changed. Greek warrior and Skertel held him the line very well, Konchesky needs to go period!

Bring on Chelsea next week!

saw the first half of pool vs bolton...

torres is very very bad..... he has no confidence.... 8th min.. he could have shot about 10m out but instead try to dribble past another defender... in the end touch too heavy... chance was lost

Torres made up for it with an assist for Maxi to save Roy's arse. If you watched the first half, the worst player you should have picked up is our Captain.
