Difficulty Starting Engine and Uneven Idling

yes it may sound simple enough to do a DIY but is it effective that way? The aim of cleaning throttlebody is to remove excessive soot inside the assembly and of course the all important ICV..i did it on my honda before and the only way i can see it going to work is by totally removing them, unscew the whole ICV unit attached to the thottle body, soak and clean until the ICV flap minus the motor can be spin freely. My DIY is a bit hardcore but that is basically the whole point of thottlebody cleaning That's a cable throttle by the eay

For you case, unless we can be sure your MPS thottlebody does come with a ICV unit, then you are on riskly business here..imagine something screwed up, 3 month down time? ethottle is a complicated unit. from my limited knowledge, it involved fair amount of electronics, gears and motors squeezed inside one small comparment coordinated by an actuator attached to your acc. Dunno about MPS. But i do read that some cars already do without ICV to minus costs, using just the butterfly to do the job..your case may apply too as mentioned by you or rather your service advsor. Therefore, i think their relantance to do it may be valid. Nowsaday cars are getting much more complex. a simple DIY years ago may not be so DIY after all. [cool]

Sounds ominous, and that's the same message I received from the service consultant. He mentioned that the butterfly is actuated by microvoltages too minute to be measured by any diagnostic equipment. Play around with it, and I may end up with a car that will sit for 3 months at the workshop waiting for the arrival of the new throttlebody. E-throttle proves to be very troublesome and I'm surprise, considering it's sensitivity to manual adjustment, there wasn't any preventive maintenance measures to prevent just such a thing from happening. So DIY can pose a real risk - I'm really in 2 minds about it.....

Hi, my car's on e-throttle, and that's one of the main reason cited for going the non-repair route. I was told it's senstive and cleaning the valve may have dire consequences.

Is resetting the throttle a mechanical adjustment? The AD mech actually reset the ECU, which obviously is the incorrect solution.

I'll call them up today regarding throttle reset - thanks for the tip.

rsetting the throttle needs no physical tools and its easy... AD can reset the ECU many times but problem wil stil be there as they never reset the ETC

The resetted ECU is learning the bad signal from the ETC so the problem will still presist

Tell AD to reset the ETC 1st than ECU 2nd manually ..will probably solve it.

btw, wats your car mileage ?

ETC is Electronic Throttle Control? How is this reset? And how is ECU reset manually?

My mileage to date is 88k. According to the AD, my MPS is the 1st to report this problem.

Got the problem licked:

1) Changed to a new throttlebody (the replaced throttlebody was caked with carbon-like dirt, and the valve movement was stiff and jerky)

2) The bypass valve gasket was missing (how did that happen?), so got that replaced

Now the engine fires up immediately upon turning the key, and falls into a steady chatter, with no wild swings on the RPM meter.

Neutral Newbie

I also encountered the difficulty on engine start:

I am using KIA cerato smart key

unable to start engine even though I pressed the brake, but the system always asked me to press brake.

The metering is able to be on .

then brake is hard to press. It looks like the car is locked.

I called the Kia emergnecy service center. They just asked me to wait for 15 mins and start engine again. acutally it is pointless.

Anybody can give some recommendation. it's really annoying. Thanks
