Tigerwoods Turbocharged October 24, 2010 Share October 24, 2010 i was in a similar situation like u... netbook vs notebook in the end, signed up for singnet bb services with free acer note book every month pay 77, get the mobile stick, plus ''free note book'' 2 years contract now enjoying every moment of it then upgrade the ram to 4gb veolia!! if u want bigger screen, buy an external lcd screen to hook up... good enough.. my note book 12 inch, took some getting used to but it serve me well mobility not an issue, then at home, hook up to bigger screen, I hook up my Notebook to the Living room 40" LCD TV and also Bedroom 32" LCD TV each with VGA cable and 3.5cm audio jack cable to the Hi-Fi and Mini compo respectively. I also have Wireless Keyboard and mouse. Voila ! Surf Web and watch Videos in big screen. This is the reason why I don't buy PC anymore... All these cables and KB/Mouse < $100. It's cheap for a reason, you know. And it's more $$$ in the not-so-long run. Edited October 25, 2010 by Turboflat4
Happily1986 5th Gear October 25, 2010 Share October 25, 2010 Well, i wouldn't exactly put that across so strongly and just say that there are better brands out there. Acer among other brands e.g. Ranger, MSI, Asus, Foxconn and Gigabyte all started out in the late 70s and 80s as OEMs. Eventually all of them moved up the technology ladder by initially reverse engineering pre-existing designs on the market and then eventually coming up with their own offerings. Ranger is no more but among the existing lot, Acer has particularly stood out for it has practically went stagnant. Whereas Gigabyte, MSI and Asus are known for their award winning and solid motherboards, Acer came to be known for their notorious QC. Their industrial shift across the Taiwan Straits sort of exacerbated that. MSI and Asus are particularly my favourites for notebooks because they make their mobo inhouse. Better system integration i would think. These two brands are particularly sought after by overclockers and computing enthusiasts partly also owing to their recognition and support for overclocking. Very rich features all featured for the purpose of overclocking. You wouldn't go wrong with a Asus notebook or a MSI notebook unless you got a lemon

You wouldn't go wrong with a Asus notebook or a MSI notebook unless you got a lemon Well, I've personally had *terrible* experiences with Acer PCs. Two of them. Multiple times for each PC - the mobos are just mofos. And I was unhappy with the customer service, to put it mildly. So a minor mission in my life is to make sure no poor sod out there ever gets saddled with an Acer without having the benefit of my opinion on the matter. And my vitriol, but you can hardly hold that against me, it was such an effed up experience. Posted about this before. He quit less than 3 months on the job due to overwhelming workloads.
