Mightymito 1st Gear October 20, 2010 Share October 20, 2010 (edited) manual 6 speed turbo. When I bought it I tot it would have the road tax and FC of a 1.4 L but the power of a 2L. Instead the insurance is 3k and it drinks like a drunken sailor when I use the turbo. I take it out on the accelarator Edited October 20, 2010 by Mightymito

Mightymito 1st Gear October 20, 2010 Share October 20, 2010 The additional road tax you have to pay can buy a lot of petrol
Bicolor 5th Gear October 20, 2010 Share October 20, 2010 I read that for coasting i.e. at neutral , the engine is running at idle speed comsuming fuel. But if you use engine brake the engine is forced to run using less fuel plus you save brake wear. Anyone know? From what I read, I gather that this is true for direct injection cars with an ECU (practically most cars on the market today). It has been said that it is not true for older carburetted cars. But in fact, I tried coasting on neutral on flat ground and on a gentle downhill, only on one certain road which I can see everything ahead and behind for a long stretch and know there is no danger of other cars or people suddenly appearing, with my 17 year old carburetted Nissan Cedric and got worse fuel economy than my usual staying in 5th gear with no acceleration. My view is that the risk associated with coasting is not worth even if it does save a few cents, but in my experience it does not save any fuel at all. Bicolor 5th Gear October 20, 2010 Share October 20, 2010 Must have been a long time since you sat in a manual trans cab. A lot of cabbies in manual go neutral coasting Actually not - I've sat in a few of the Crown and Cedric manual cabs while back iN Singapore recently. Quite common for them to coast downhill. Have heard some of the drivers say it saves fuel, but I tried and get the opposite effect with my car, which is a diesel car and identical in specifications to the older Cedric cabs. Mustank Hypersonic October 20, 2010 Share October 20, 2010 Bro, relax....i always keep left but you must understand, diesel max is 5000 rpm.....so 1500 rpm is already 30%.....in petrol terms, it means probably 2100 rpm assuming 7000 max rpm ↡ Advertisement
