just bought a battery indicator from autobac, those ciggy plug in type.

it has 3 color led. green = full charge, yellow = half charged, red = low batt

As the instruction is in japanese, cannot understand the instructions.

So should i change the battery when it shows yellow or red?

anyone bought the same?

Yeah, I have a external batt charger.

But your car must be near a AC source or you need to move the battery everytime you want to charge it.

Anyone using liquid filled battery these days?

Regards,

Don't be mistaken. Most batteries are still "liquid fill".

Many maintenance-free are still wet cell.

They are only sealed to reduce water loss. Some have vents for outgassing, some have slots that you still can fill with water.

Tell me more about this charger. Where to get it done?

Thanks.

Regards,

You can get a AC charger from Sim Lim Tower basement for about $50.

The brand is Vanson.

However, the trouble is that you need an AC source near to your car.

Otherwise, you have to lug the battery near to AC source.

Those are just simple voltage indicator.

They don't tell you much about the true condition of the battery.

They only show you by colours what is the voltage level.

That means when your engine is running, you should see green LED, which is really the alternator voltage and not the true battery voltage.

Even a bad battery can show you green LED today and the next morning will not crank start your car.

yup, my garage has a few sockets.

and also, for those with dying batteries but still wanna tempt fate, get a pair of jumper cables, i learnt the hard way some time back, stranded without jumper cables, people stopped but they don't have jumper cables either, until a kind soul with jumper cables stopped, was i able to get back on the road.

especially for auto cars, whcih you cannot push start.

huh?? u meant amaron batt fails you??

Bro, I replaced a few Amaron's already. They are not mine, just my customers.

Amaron is not as "powerful" as the reputation seemed to go around.

1 (i30) last less than 1 yr, and the other 2 (Swift and Avante) about 2 yrs battery life.

my last few batteries all also last 1 year only. maybe is becos the weather getting hotter, or the batteries getting lousier, somemore i drive both long and short distances. thats why nowadays i kiasu, battery one year old i quickly change to prevent breakdown. the worse is it doesnt have any sign beforehand. thays why when i hear people say their batteries can last 2 years, i am surprised.

My green Amaron is 2yrs old now still going strong... i have upgraded ICE... i start my car like 15 times a day approx...

i would say short driving shortens the batt life... also cranking with radio and aircon switch at on etc....

but a shorter batt is usually cause the alternator is older with age and will not charge as good as a new car mah...

same here my Amaron replaced by AA... 2yrs and still strong... smtimes it really depends on the driving distances all... strength of alternator blah blah blah...

my company van once the batt was weak in cranking,... when i got it started and i full blast the aircon, the fan was weak and was stronger as i stepped on the throttle... shows how much power the aircon needs to run....
