Vinceng Turbocharged October 16, 2010 Share October 16, 2010 (edited) Broneo Motors claims the dual VVTi engine is 13% more fuel efficient but they failed to disclose that the kerb weight has increased by 10% to almost 1300kg. in comparison, the 2003 9th generation Corolla 1.6 using the VVTi engine eighs just 1080kg. An extra 200kg weight increase does not spell much hope for better fuel efficiency. This weight increase puts the new Corolla Altis in the same league as the Kia Cerato and Ford Focus which are never renowned for fuel efficiency. Meepok87 Neutral Newbie October 16, 2010 Share October 16, 2010 Manufacturers' figures are under controlled environment and are not realistic. i know what you all meant by that. but all the manufacturers figures are under controlled environment, so if u compare between controll environment vs controlled environment it shld be fair right? obviously they state 14.7km u wun be getting 14.7. u may be getting 12-13. but the old official figure is 12-13, which means u will be getting 10-11. so overall there is improvement. Its just whether you think is it good enough or not. The increase in bhp, and fuel comsumption. However, its still the old ancient 4 spd though. Not good enough but its reliable ( supposingly) If china car manufacturer come out with new cars that give u higher bhp, good 0-100, good fc, and 6 spd gearbox. By just looking at the paper specs, will u still buy? there is a reliability and brand factor involved also. Unless you are a professional, you wun know the exact effect of the 6 spd gearbox as well. Watwheels Supersonic October 16, 2010 Share October 16, 2010 seen the new altis dual vvti. like sibei power, but does it increase the fc? It's just a marketing strategy to sucker more buyers into buying this car. Increase sales, perhaps yes.
Vinceng Turbocharged October 16, 2010 Share October 16, 2010 (edited) For a Thai assembled car wi.th cheap Thai parts, the Altis is way overpriced Profir margin for Borneo Motors is in excess of $10k for each car sold. The 100% Japan assembled Nissan Sylphy is better with its efficient aluminium engine and spacious interior with 2700mm wheelbase against the Altis 2600mm. Ben5266 Supercharged October 16, 2010 Share October 16, 2010 For a Thai assembled car wi.th cheap Thai parts, the Altis is way overpriced Profir margin for Borneo Motors is in excess for each car sold. The 100% Japan assembled Nissan Sylphy is better with its efficient aluminium and spacious interior with 2700mm wheelbase against the Altis 2600mm. But new Slyphy 1.5 is now priced at $92k. Altis is $84k. $8k diff is a lot. No need to test drive or compare. Altis is The choice for a decent family car now.
